UXTheme Multi-Patcher (Neowin Edition) 4.0

Recommended Posts

I've been reading through these posts and can't figure which patch to use and where to get it from.

I am using Windows XP MCE 2005. Can anyone help me on this?

If you use the Neowin UXTheme Multi-Patcher posted here or https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=140707, it will determine the version of Windows you are using and install the appropriate uxtheme.dll for you. I believe it has many uxtheme.dll files for each version of Windows XP. Whether it patches what depends on what version of Windows XP it detects.

Hi guys, I am having a MAJOR problem...

I have updated to Autopatcher's April edition and after restarting, my themes support disappeared. So, I used v4.0 to patch again but it doesn't seem to work (after quite a few tries).

Right now, where it stands, I double-click a theme, it will show up in the properties window (with the preview window black) and when trying to apply it, it will throw a long RUNDLL error message.

I have no idea what to do, I don't know how to uninstall via the Undo feature of Autopatcher (and WHAT to uninstall; SOMETHING caused this) AND I CANNOT STAND the classic look! I'd use Luna, but even that doesn't work -- the error message says that the "file failed to load").

SOMEONE HELP A POOR SOUL! :(

BTW, it seems that even trying to customize he Classic look won't work. Applying doesn't change anything. :(

the patcher is old. i'm not surprised it doesn't work.

try the new patch, v5.

also, try flyakite's patch: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=382215

or do it manually: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=339820

here's a list of files: https://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=140707

Hey there...

Okay, I did this:

1. Uninstall Autopatcher, just 'cause it ****ed me off

1.1 restart

2. Revert back ("hopefully") the patcher by running it again

2.2 restart

3. Try the Universal patcher 1.2 file -- installation notifies me that it went OK

3.3 restart

4. Double-click a theme, see screen shots: screen 1, screen 2

5. BAH. :(

Also note that I cannot customize my Classic looks as well.

Somehow I feel this is connected.

First time ever something like this happens to me. sigh. :(

make sure the themes service is set to automatic. run > services.msc > themes

also, try different styles and see if it affects all of them. finally, delete all instances of uxtheme.dll NOT in system32.

The service is set on Automatic and is started.

This happens with all my themes.

I have deleted all instances of uxtheme.dll and left only the copy in the system32 folder.

Problem remains, I still get that RUNDLL error dialog when trying to apply a theme.

Using a restore point of a few days ago doesn't help either.

I am sooooo not going to reinstall Windows.

There must be something that can be done!

Have you tried renaming the i386 folder in the root directory of C: to something else? There might be a few other i386 folders too. But that was a problem sometimes. Probably not this though but worth a shot.

I think I used v4 to do mce2k5 a few months ago.

can i know how to unload this patch? Coz it make my com like.. screwed up n programme seems to load slower

just replace the file with the old one.

but don't do that yet. uxtheme.dll doesn't affect performance. the file is exactly the same except that it's unlocked and allows you to use unsigned styles. that does not affect the computer's performance. i suggest you identify the problem first instead of worrying about uxtheme files.

Wow...that this thread is still active and alive after so many months is simply amazing.

Maybe it would have been best had I never come across it in the first place. Here's why:

While looking up howto get around using StyleXP to use 3rd-party themes, I came across this whole buncha' info. on the 'uxtheme.dll' file and how to replace it.

I ended up using the UXTheme Multi-Patcher (Neowin Edition) 4.0...it worked, seemingly, flawlessly. However, when I reset the computer, it takes forever to load up, and when something does show up, it's just my windows desktop background. Nothing else shows up. Not the start bar, nor the desktop icons, nor anything else.

CTRL+ALT+DELETE still can bring up Task Manager, which I can use to "bring back" explorer.exe by running something else, like Control Panel. Tsak Manager Processes says that explorer.exe is running everytime I start the computer, but nothing shows up.

I think it's because the Patcher replaced my default ver. of uxtheme.dll file (5.1.2100.2562) with another version that doesn't match. I also have no Windows CD to restore my default uxtheme.dll file.

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this? I think I read in a previous post that installing StyleXP fixes your uxtheme.dll file somehow. I'd just like everything to be restored the way it was.

i should really remove the link or something. v4.0 is old and may not work on newer systems. please remember to use the correct version when replacing the file.

are you able to get into the drive at all, either through another computer, linux, or the recovery console? if you have a backup, just rename or delete uxtheme.dll, then rename the backup to uxtheme.dll.
