Comcast Remote Codes?

Recommended Posts

This is probably the best suited place for this question, as most of you here have programmed remotes many a time.

I have comcast digital cable, have had it for a long time. I have the On Demand Custom 3-Device Universal Remote Control. It is programmed to control my Stereo (AUX), TV, and Cable.

My problem is this, while on Cable mode, it interferes with my stereo every now and then with random buttons, switching from Video 1 mode (which I use for my cable), to tuner. It does it every now and then, most of the time not often. I could deal with this.

My new problem is with a DVD Player I just got, it interfers with that A LOT. Many buttons will switch the mode of the DVD Player. It cycles through the input modes and is very annoying.

My question is, can I reprogram the Cable button on the remote to use a different (acceptable) code for the cable box? If not, I will probably have to see if I can get a new remote.

Any help would be appreciated.

New information: I tried another (older) comcast digital cable remote I had in the house and it inteferes with the DVD Player also. It's very annoying. I tried to reprogram the Cable button on my remote, but apparently the "Cable Box" codes in the manual are not for the Cable button.

Hmm. If it's using the same signal as the cable box, then you might not be able to fix the problem with another code etc. I'm guessing though. I'm no expert at this sort of thing. How about locating the dvd player remote and see if it affects the cable box?

A lot of remote codes are compatible with different manufacturer devices, and some remote codes work with different kinds of devices from the same manufacturer. I have a Phillips DVD player and a Phillips TV. I cannot use my remote to control both because they interfere with one another. I have 2 remotes, the universal one that controls my DVR and adjusts the volume on the TV, and the DVD player remote. Some buttons do different things on the Comcast remote with the TV and DVD player. It sucks, and it annoys me but blame it on the manufacturer of our remotes since the limitation is hardware based upon devices on the market at the time the remote was manufactured.
