Freedom of speech and road signs.

Recommended Posts

I live in southern washington near the border of oregon so on our local news they showed a new highway sign that was put up. it says "American Nazi Party" people are outraged about this. I do not live in this town but it came threw are local news because it is not to far away. They were able to put the sign up cause of this adobt a road program agreeing they will clean up the road just once a year. So now there is a sign up that says "American Nazi Pary" whats next? is someone gonna put up a sign saying "KKK" or ###### will be slaughterd" They said the sign is pefectly legal because of "freedom of speech" . What do you guys think about this? The news says local police will keep an eye on it at night to make sure no one takes the sign down and if they do they will be arrested.

I fail to see american logic.

Talibans are bad.

Nazi part was similarly bad.

Taliban party is preety much illegal (under US feelings) to have any links with.

Nazi party are allowed to put a road sign up within US soil!

I don't get it?

Yes, they can put up a sign. Its in the Constitution. Don't like it? Move somewhere where you don't have any freedoms. You can go put up a "Democratic Party" sign, this is no different. Just because you don't agree with their views does not change their right to sponsor that section of road and put up a sign saying they did so.

And, further, just because they are called the "American Nazi Party" doesn't mean they want to slaughter all the jewish people in the world. That wasn't the only thing the German Nazi Party stood for. I am unfamiliar with this group, but you should probably do some research before you start moaning and complaining.

Near the highway a little ways from here, there's a big wooden sign at the edge of a corn field. On one side it says 'VOTE PRO-LIFE'. On the other side it says 'GOD IS PRO-LIFE. ARE YOU?' I loled.

As long as it doesn't violate indecency/disturbance laws (i doubt you could put a sign about '######' up anywhere), it's pretty much OK. Kind of lame that there are people out there who support such ridiculous thinking, but it's my belief that the government shouldn't be in the business of thought-policing.

I'd like to quote a line from the movie The American President. The line is from a scene where the President of the United States (played by Michael Douglas) is defending his girlfriend Sydney Elllen Wade (played by Annette Bening) against allegations and attacks being propagated by the President's closest competitor (played by Richard Dreyfus) in the coming Presidential election. Dreyfus's character is attacking Bening's for a photograph taken of her some 20 years prior at an apartheid protest in which a United States flag was burned. The line is given by the President (Douglas) in one of his campaign speeches following the attack by Dreyfus's character.

You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating, at the top of his lungs, that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free, then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then you can stand up and sing about the land of the free.

I'm not an advocate for The American Nazi party or any other group fro that matter. I do however believe that free speech means just that, the freedom to speak about or say whatever you want without fear of persecution or prosecution. Anything else is not free speech.

White girls who refuse the advances of Negroids, are publicly gang-raped so as to serve as examples to other shuddering Aryan females. Children are now taken from their houses, by force, to be brought up in a "Multi-Cultural" home of Negroids, Arabs, Muslims and Gooks, all in the name of "brotherhood and love"...

the poor poor white man
