Mother indicted for hiring stripper for son's birthday party

NASHVILLE (AP) ? A mother faces criminal charges after she hired a stripper to dance at her 16-year-old son's birthday party.i>

Anette Pharris, 34, has been indicted by a grand jury on charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and involving a minor in obscene acts. The boy's father, the stripper and two others also face charges.

"I tried to do something special for my son," Pharris said. "It didn't harm him."

About 10 people under the age of 18 were at the birthday party in September, including minors who were not related to the family, authorities said.

Police spokesman Don Aaron said minors are not permitted in adult establishments.

"A person shouldn't be allowed to circumvent that law by hiring a stripper, a lady who took all her clothes off and spent a good amount of time dancing around minors," he said.

Anette Pharris took photos at the party and tried to have them developed at a nearby drug store. Drug store employees notified authorities, police said.

"Who are they to tell me what I can and can't show to my own children?" the mother said.

I wish my mom got me a stripper for my 16th birthday. The mother could have avoided all of this if she had a digital camera.

I'm surprised no one has bashed the mother for her *ahem* screwy parenting logic.

This kinda worries me about photo developing centres. Do they get a kick out of developing a customer's film roll when it's full of naked pics?

Could you tell me where? Because I searched the entire board for it just in case and didn't come up with anything...

If it is a repost, sorry guys, my mistake.

Not really a big deal. I mean its not like they were all 9 year olds. They were 16, they should be able to see it IMO.

Did those kids do something perfect on mother's day for her to get them a stripper? :ninja:

she is absolutely right!

I agree with you to an extent: several of the kids there were not her own and therefore she had no right to choose whether or not they could see a stripper. If she had in fact gotten permission from the other kids' parents, then by all means they should not be prosecuting them.

That was ignorant, this has nothing to with politics. It's called common sense.

But think about it though... It's like a parent's right to let a child see a rated R movie... It's the same thing, and I think that she should be able to give or not give consent for such things. Obviously, they can't go into a strip club no matter what the parent says, but if the parent allows a stripper to be at a birthday party, why not? I still do disagree with it if in fact she didn't get permission from the other parents, but in any case her own child should be able to have that if she says it's okay.

It's the law for a reason. For example, some parents think it's okay for their kids to drink and do drugs. As a matter of fact, I've seen some parents that think it's alright to teach their kids to kill other gang members. Should that be allowed too? Of course not, that's ridiculous, but my point is that "parents" don't always do the right thing when it comes to their kids.

Actually, re-read my post. I said "that" (the statement) was ignorant. So, Mr. "overly sensitive", put your pants back on. And no, I don't watch American Dad, the show sucks. It's a rehash crapfest of stale, tired characters.

It's the law because whoever was in charge at the time felt that they had to "protect our morals" (who said their is a universal set of morals, and that they have any right to enforce their beliefs on others?)

Drugs and alcohol and violence are one thing, those can actually harm other people, directly(violence, duh) or indirectly. However, a stripper doesn't harm anyone(generally speaking). Denying minors the right to something like this if their parents consent is simply a conservative group imposing its views upon the rest of the country. Why do they have any right to decide what anyone else can see?

So ****ing sad.

In England, at the age of 16, you can have sex, BUT you cannot goto strip clubs, buy porn magazines until you are 18.

And the chances are that these kids see naked woman all the time, i.e. Internet, newspapers etc.

9 year olds and 16 year olds are both minors by law.
