Post Count.....

Recommended Posts

Well question to you all,

How does the post count work on this forum, When i post on many forum's after a month or so they tend to erase old post's to keep forum clean and faster, thou when this did happen your post count was lost with your post. so unless you post alot your count slow went down. Is this the same for this forum??

Thanks for all ya help

The only way your post count could decrease is if a comment you made on a news item, a post you made or a thread you posted in is deleted.

Hrmm yes while where on this because I opened up the thread

I mean neowin cleans its posts out too

we dont do it very often but it is done.

BUT, when this occurs to me have static post counts do we

I mean its a fact we clean out the forums so the old posts and threads are gone, so why dont the post counts go down?

or is that just how this forum board is setup?

bah, post count.

/me runs off to word association game so i can have 3000 posts, none of which have ever helped or contributed to the community. basically, i'm a spammer. but i want people to think i know whats going on because i'm in the top 10.

Pruning the db does not affect post count because vB is not programmed to handle it that way.

Plus, the UPDATE queries would slow down pruning quite a bit, so they opted to omit it...

Neowin's posts aren't cleaned out. If they were I don't think post counts would be affected. As timdorr has said mass pruning does not affect post counts, only deleting single posts/threads does.

The only time post counts could have been affected was around September last year (if you look back the oldest news post is from September 2001), because around that time the newsposts were cleared.
