WASHINGTON(AP)- Senator Tom Carper is calling for a tax on all Internet pornography.

The Delaware Democrat is proposing a 25 percent tax on the purchase of pornographic material online.

The collected tax money would go to a fund to help police prosecute online child pornographers.

The provision is part of the Internet Safety and Child Protection Act.

In addition to the fund, the bill would require online pornographers to use age-verification software to block children's access.

Carper says the bill will keep kids away from X-rated material.

Please tell me that this is too ridiculous to pass.

I don't think I need to point out the absurdity in the amount that they're proposing as well as the "reason" they think they should do this.

hahaha, I dont mind actually. Anyone angry about this looks at way too much porn.

Ohhh and anyone can get by the age verification system implemented in all of the porn websites. All it takes is one click. How do they think they can improve on it?

How do they plan on collecting this tax..?

and the only age verification system i can see working here is having to put in credit card details (valid ones) to verify your age.

or they could just put a little javascript in and ask the user how old they are :D

How about parents actually doing something instead of letting the computer and Internet babysit their kids for a change.

^ We are now living in the United Nanny States of America. The government will step in to do what's right, they always know best. Parents don't need to worry about the kids. :hmmm:

It would be nice if parents could be trusted to protect their kids these days, but that just isnt happening in many cases. And sadly the government feels it must compensate. You cannot make up for a lack of guidance and instruction in the home. But the tax idea isnt that bad....

I thought that Blanche Lambert Lincoln was the person behind this bill?

Sounds to me like a Sin tax. If you can't find a way to ban it just tax the product to death. The tax will only punish the adult who acquires his porn legally. A enterprising child will just use his parent's credit card to verify his age. I would guess that if a person really wants to avoid that problem simply use in p2p software.
