Plane Crash north of Athens

A plane depressuring, even at a few thousand feet, won't kill people for quite a long time. Never heard/seen that documentary about the jet plane cockpit window which came off? The pilot was sucked (blown) out and clung to the outside of the plane until it landed, with another crew member clinging to his leg. Survived just fine.

Looks like the plane in question was simply too high. Pity nobody could bring it back down in time, to a safe altitude.

How come the oxygen masks weren't sufficient to keep the pilots and passengers alive until they could descend into warmer air?

the fighter pilot was reported as saying he saw the pilots slumped over their controls. no indication of passangers attempting to lower the planes altitude. most likely they were instructed to stay seated by the cabin crew and slowly to death as the temperature dropped.

they were at 35,000 ft afterall (hardly a few thousand!!), and its about -50 Centigrade up there (it only gets warmer below 10,000 ft.. and they cant descend that fast), so you would go unconcious quite quickly.

edit- it seems as though somone, with the help of the co-pilot, was trying to regain control of the plane in the final moments of the flight. and indication that not everyone was dead due to the cold, just unconcious (until the air warmed as the plane approached the ground)

#1 there was co-pilot who didnt move but there was NO pilot in the seat

#2 autopsy reveal that there was 6 people who were alive when plane hit the ground, everybody was already dead.

there enough oxygen to bring plane down below 10000 feet ( 15-20 min of oxygen)

the only thingI'm wondering " Where to hell pilot was?"

RIP

I would have thought that it'd be difficult to mistake a cessna for a jet fighter.

y'd think so, but for some people it's harder to tell the difference between an F-16 and a Cessna, than it is for me to tell the difference between an F-4F and an RF-4E.

the people who were still alive dragged him out the way in attempt to regain control

but they obviously couldnt

and there are reports of the entire oxygen system failing, so there wouldnt have been any oxygen for them to breathe.

really its quite simple

just engage that brain of yours
