(6758.T: Quote, Profile, Research) plans to co-develop liquid crystal display (LCD) panels with joint venture partner Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. (005930.KS: Quote, Profile, Research), the Nihon Keizai business daily reported on Thursday.South Korea's Samsung currently develops the flat screens rolled out from the 50-50 joint venture, a $2 billion enterprise called S-LCD. But Sony hopes to obtain high-quality panels at lower cost by participating in their development, the newspaper said. The two companies are expected to decide on the size of the work force for the project and the need for additional investment, it said.
