Ban on violent net porn planned

Recommended Posts

apart from the fact you cant ban anything on the internet (you can only attempt to censor it) i mostly dont have any problems with it.

mostly the fact they are making a link between violent porn and murder/rape, not everybody who watches violent porn rapes/murders people, and not every person who rapes/murders people watches violent porn. (like saying all people who play GTA shoot people, and all people who shoot people play GTA, just not true)

and i feel sorry for the woman for loosing her daughter, but violent porn didnt cause that, a messed up dude caused it.

i am also against filtering/censoring the net that's avaliable for the general public, what's avaliable should not be decided by a select few, who are those people to say that people can not view certain content if they dont like it.

Hope thay bring out the .xxx domain soon.

But that still doesn't stop them from just registering .com domains, right?

Uhh no he had a valid point, porn does lead to more and more sick things if the person can't control themselves... violent porn is very bad and nothing good for society, it can be banned and it would only benefit people.

Nah, not automatically. It depends on the method of banning and such things. It's common among people strongly against things and with little insights in the problems of Internet censoring to believe it's as simple as just wiping it out, but just take the example of a foreign domain name offering very violent porn. What to do? Just filter the domain? What if it happened to be a large ISP where just a user had happened to upload it, and tens of thousands legal US users were affected by such a block?

What the US can't do is to make violent porn illegal in all other countries, so that leads me into thinking of enforced filters, and you better hope they're good then, because nothing is implying that.

We have child porn filters nowadays here in Sweden, and I have been caught more than once of watching child porn by it. Now that's very disturbing because I wasn't, of course. I was directed directly to a police web site with a big sign "This site is blocked", and I pray they didn't think of their filters so highly that they've put me in some sort of register. It made me very worried; what can I do if they'd say to me "we know you watched child porn because our filters told us so"... How can I possibly get counter-evidence? I don't even remember now which domain brought it up and it's probably out of my cache by now.

And if you get the same thing but for "violent porn" (even worse -- a very broad and quite undefined subject, in addition to filter misbehavings), you can only hope they won't act on what it detects, because a lot of innocent people may be caught.

So please, just think hard before saying "yeah, just take it all out". It's not as simple as that. In the bottom, all it is, is ones and zeroes crossing servers forming a grey zone of what is legal and what isn't. It's not a person sitting with a button pressing "yes, violent", "no, legit".

Anything taken to extremes is bad. Look at religion? Sure, millions worship in a normal, healthy, way. Some, every Sunday isn't enough. Then they start speaking in tonges or start handling snakes. Some even use religion as an excuse to start killing people.

So I think porn, like religion, isn't bad just as long as you don't go nuts with it.

This is a load of bull****. If a person is messed up, then he is messed up to begin with and porn has nothing to with it. I really don't see the point of the ban. A person can't go nuts with porn, a person is already nuts if he enjoys watching violent rape scenes. And plus as soon as we start banning things, we're gonna go down a road of slippery slopes. Then before you know it, every kind of porn is banned.

Good. Maybe you can try getting women in real life instead of fantasizing or watching porn

Banning Voilent Pornography? But its such a good song :( what did System of a Down ever do to them? lol!

Seriously though, maybe if these acts aren't shown to the ppl getting off on it, they might be forced to commit more of the sick acts for real instead not having those fantasies, might be bad news! Lets hope it does whatever they want to accomplish. But people who want to see this WANT TO SEE it now, and if their addicted enough they'll do w/e it takes to get 'er done(as rednecks say).

nothing like a good snuff film

j/k

BTW:: I do not think censorship of any kind is ever appropriate, if someone does something wrong and films it they should get in trouble for doing the act not the film.
