First off, its The Da Vinci Code. :)

This book really interested me, so I dove into the pyramid of books it was built upon, Holy Blood Holy Grail, The Nag Hamadi Libraries, The Lady in the Alabaster Jar, etc. (There's about 7 of them).

Unfortunitly there has been recent doubt as to whether the information about the Priory of Sion is factual or not. (This is in much dispute right now).

To me it's clear that in Da Vinci's painting of the Last Supper, not only is the person to Jesus's right a Woman, but that John's hand is at her throat. Also do not forget about the uncounted for (extra hand) brandishing the knife in the painting, as this also intruiges many.

It is also important to remember that this painting was made in the 1500's and should not be regaurded as though it was painted on the scene. It is one mans interpretation of what happened. Given that Da Vinci was more probably one of the most brilliant minds to ever walk this planet, I choose to believe that he is trying to tell us something.

The Mona Lisa is one of the most debated paintings in existance. There are so many oddities in this painting, that it is hard to discern which anomolies are intended to say what.

Some believe that the Mona Lisa could be a self portrait of Da Vinci's inner self (Who is believed to have been flamboyantly gay), thus making it an afeminite Leonardo.

Constantine was basically the Architech of the modern Bible, though he did not write the passages himself, he chose which gospels writings were to be included. With this power he could have made Jesus into a demonic cult leader if he really wanted to (though I'm sure that wouldn't have been very accepted lol). The bible is like any other story book, it is full of stories teaching moral and ethical values using simple, (to some) believable characters. It has been translated and re-translated so many times, that it has probably changed much from the origional book. This makes it very hard to figure out what Constantine's architecture really was.

I hope some (if any) of that was helpful.

Yes, keep in mind the story is fictional, but it implies a lot of conspiracy within the Church and question's Christianity's background itself.

No matter how many times this book is brought up, some posters forget that they (original posters) are asking questions, NOT saying the book is real... Just interesting...

I finished reading it the other day too and I found it really interesting. But, I don't think Da Vinci was trying to tell us anything, even though he was a great mind. He may have just wanted to do it for the fun of it, and too see if there is controversy.

About the book saying Jesus was married, it makes perfect sense. I mean, he was a Jewish man, and single adults do not really have a part in the Jewish religion.

Hmm, interesting read. But as it said, they were a radical group, who went off their beliefs of "what was right". I highly doubt that Jesus or John the Baptist was part of this group, as it said that they would have been in "total isolation". How would they be able to spread their message living like that?

John the Baptist was said to live in the wildness and preach/baptise people outside of the cities. John Jesus attracted the outcast and disenfranchised of Jewish society. The followers were former prostitutes, reformed thieves, tax collectors and the poor. They, along with their closest followers would have slept outside most of the time.

They were not part of the mainstream and it is said that John the Baptist was beheaded on orders of King Herod. Jesus was threatened with stoning for his unorthodox views and actions. There was also the charges of heresy and the whole crucifixion thing.

They were the anti-establishment movement leaders of their day. The closest thing you could compare them to would be the hippies of the 60's.

Look at the similarities between their views on the Temple and compare it with how the Essenes viewed it and also compare the lifestyle of the early christians and the Essene community.

Jesus predicted that the temple would be destroyed within a generation. That would have been seen as an insult to mainstream Judaism where the Temple in Jerusalem played a key role.

Ah yes, the whole going into the Temple to rid it of the money makers story. I don't remember much of it, but I know enough to see the links you are making.

You said prostitutes, so you think that may have been where he met Mary Magdelene? If she was a Prostitute after all, the book raises the issue that the Church put that onto her.

The idea that Mary Magdalene was the same woman as the sinner who broke the Alabaster jar is nor universally accepted by Christian. Many protestants believe that there were two Mary's that followed Jesus.

Do not confuse Roman Catholicism with the whole church.

She was indeed the woman who had seven demons cast out of her but whether she was a prostitute is a matter for debate.

I see Catholism as the Chirch because it was the basisi of Christianity and the other forms of it sprout from that. My view, of course.

Well you are entitled to your opinion.

I view the Roman Catholic church as having evolved from the early church and their views did not diverge too much from early teaching until some time after the Council of Nicene.

There are other Christian denominations which are as old as the catholic church (ie. Coptic) which do not hold the same views as the Roman Church on many matters.

I call it the Roman Church because my denomination considers themselves as Catholic even though we broke off from the church centuries ago and hold different views on extra-biblical texts and teachings put forth by Rome.

We even say that we believe in the holy catholic church in our creeds even though we are not called that publically. That denomination would be the one started by Martin Luthor who did not set out to create a new church but only to reform the Catholic church.

Reform is not always accepted by the masses, so that may be why he set up his own church.

So yu are saying your church is still closely tied with the Catholic Church? So you still have the same basic style of it, or have you completely changed?

It is not closely tied with the Catholic church but they did sign a treaty ending centuries of conflict a recently and Cardinal Ratzinger, now known as the current Pope had studied the history of Luther. He was apparently instrumental in reaching some agreement.

Like other Protestant churches, Lutherans do not venerate the Virgin Mary, they have no indulgences, they do not condone graven images, there is no Pope or cardinals and we do not call our clergy "fathers".

There is some similarity between services except the churches are less ornate and the sacraments presented in plain language. You could say that the are less flashy but the form of the services are similar to a catholic mass.

Anglicans are more similar to the Catholic church in many ways but they were a deliberate schism from the Catholic church whereas Luther was trying to reform the church to make it more accessible to the common people.
