Director of FEMA Resigns

Recommended Posts

He should resign, actually he should have been fired. He has one job, to make sure his agency (FEMA) is prepared to respond to disasters. Since there are not that many disasters what was he doing to prepare. He had poor plans in place and the response and implementation was poor.

According to Google Answers:

The FEMA Director is a Presidential appointment at a level known as

Executive Level III, which earns a salary (in 2004) of $145,600.

Astonishingly, he was paid $145,000 and he couldn't handle this crises. I think they should seek Presidential appointees in all positions that are better qualified. I acknowledge, I am Canadian, but our gov't does the same think with many positions. Its politics. This stuff needs to change.

That's relatively peanuts for a senior level position.

The Director of Education for the Toronto District School Board makes several hundred thousand dollars per year. Way more than that guy (even once you convert the dollar).

True to that. The problem is even if the TDSB director had a padded resume, I wouldn't care. Brown did and this (might) have cost lives. Either way his responsibility is to help prepare to save lives. He wasn't cut for the job. $145,000 regardless is too much because of this.

Either way, I hope some good comes of this (I'm trying to be optimistic!). Maybe less political appointees?
