Ashley Smith gave courtroom gunman meth

Recommended Posts

Maybe you recall Ashley Smith, the woman who was taken hostage in her own home and then sweet talked her way out of it and got him to give up in the name of Christ.

Ann Coulter, perhaps the most disgusting woman to walk this earth since Lucretia Borgia, wrote about Ashely Smith:

"Smith knew all about Nichols' violent depredations from TV. Yet she saw him not as a monster, but as one of God's creatures. Most Christians -- most people -- have trouble seeing the humanity of people who take our parking spots. Smith could see God's hand in a multiple murderer holding her hostage. By showing him genuine Christian love, Smith turned Nichols from a beast to a brother in Christ."

Whoops.

ATLANTA Sep 27, 2005 ? Ashley Smith, the woman who says she persuaded suspected courthouse gunman Brian Nichols to release her by talking about her faith in God, discloses in a new book that she gave him methamphetamine during the hostage ordeal.

Smith did not share that detail with authorities after she talked her way out of captivity.

In her book, "Unlikely Angel," released Tuesday, the 27-year-old Smith says Nichols had her bound on her bed with masking tape and an extension cord. She says he asked for marijuana, but she did not have any, so she dug into her illegal stash of crystal meth instead.

"Showing him genuine Christian love"...funny, I don't remember the crystal meth part of my catechism, do you?

Ooops....

It's hard to know where to put the threads sometimes.

Definitely.

If it is more funny but still news I usually stick them in MM

If it is just world news that is more local to wherever it comes from I generally stick it here.

for RWI its the religion threads, the politics threads and any issue that affects more than just one coutntry more or less.

This article is almost straddling it, because there is talk of religion, but it isn't really the religion that is up for debate here. It is just kind of discrediting her earlier claims of only using religion to get him to let her go.

Hope this helps everyone. I know there is something like this posted by another mod as well somewhere, but I have no idea where that got to.

OMG, Ann Coulter was on Hannity & Colmes tonight...

Ann just couldn't accept the fact that Pat Tillman was against the Iraq war and enjoyed Noam Chomsky. As if it tarnished his tour of duty or his sacrifice. None of this should matter to anyone at all except of course if you write a book that denounces those types of beliefs and labels them as Un-American. After she praised Pat in the past; (and rightly so) what was her witty retort to the contradiction she was now faced with?

Ann: ..I don't believe it." Sean Hannity joined in: "I don't believe it either."

An extreme right-wing commentator.... She was saying on Hannity (they were talking about her book) that you should never give a democrat a compliment or shake hands with them, etc. She said some really evil stuff, and I'm not saying that because I don't agree with her views. She kept saying that she didn't believe that Pat Tillman was against the Iraq war and that they must have gotten that from CBS news. She looked absolutely stunned.

A woman with so much hatred and contempt that had she lived in Nazi Germany she probably would have been Hitler's bitch.

I think that is even putting it too nicely. I cannot believe what she said about Tillman.

Enough Conservative bashing, back to the topic...

Excellent find. This has really turned her life around. Who'd have thought through the crimes he committed that day that he would help to turn a life around.

Smith, who has been in a mental hospital and has flunked out of drug rehab programs, says the seven-hour hostage ordeal led her to stop using drugs. She says she has not touched drugs since the night before she was taken hostage.

"If I did die, I wasn't going to heaven and say, 'Oh, excuse me, God. Let me wipe my nose, because I just did some drugs before I got here,"' Smith told the Augusta Chronicle.

Police said Nichols took Smith hostage in her apartment March 11 after a shooting rampage at the Atlanta courthouse.

During the ordeal, Smith says, she pulled out Rick Warren's book "The Purpose-Driven Life" and read to Nichols a chapter called "Using What God Gave Me" to gain his trust. Nichols later released her, and she called 911 and told authorities where to find him.

Since Nichols' arrest, Smith has received $70,000 in rewards and has been bombarded with offers for books, movies and speaking engagements. Her ordeal has been held up as an example of the redemptive power of faith.

"It's hard for people to understand the miracle of the story," she says. "This was totally a God thing, to me in my life. This was God getting my attention, going, 'I'm going to give you one more chance.' "

I admire her for telling the truth. Not many people could tell people that they were kidnapped and they shared some crank with their kidnapper. It's a shame that people tried to take advantage of her because she said she read part of a book to him. Are drug dealers going to start advertising this now?

Way to edit your post there...good thing I quoted it.:

From the Oprah interview

Smith became emotional a couple times during Wednesday's show, once when she talked about losing custody of her daughter due to her addiction to methamphetamine ? the drug she gave Nichols. Later, though, there were tears of joy as surprise guest Rick Warren, author "The Purpose-Driven Life," joined Smith on Winfrey's couch. Smith read part of the inspirational book to Nichols while he held her captive.

"If God only used perfect people, nothing would get done," Warren said. "God will use anybody if you're available."
