Random Disconnect Problem with D-Link router

Recommended Posts

I have a D-Link DI-524 wireless router and I am connected to my main computer by ethernet out of that router. I am using cable internet. My problem is that every once in a while I get disconnected from the internet. It happens several times every day and it is a major inconvinence. When I get disconnected, I can't just turn router and cable modem off and on to get it working again. The only way to fix the problem is to reboot the computer. These disconnects are interfering with my donloads and with my browsing, and I am hoping that there is some way to fix it. Can someone help me fix this?

It may be software or firmware problems since you said the only way to fix is to reboot the computer. Try a fresh reset on your wireless router and reconfigure everything again. Check for viruses / spywares on your PC although I doubt you'll have that problem anyways.

I am using Dlink-4300 gaming router(technically switch hehe). Anyways, it worked fine for two weeks, then it just up and restarted like 10 times in row for some reason. I thought it was the cable modem or somehtinc cutting out from time to time, but then I just stopped to look at it once and it just kept rebooting.

upgraded firmware. Problem went away. Not saying this will help, but check all settings and make sure power is plugged in all the way(i've had it half in before and that caused the problem once too).

I have exactly the same problem with the DI-524, but it ONLY happens on wireless connections.

It's really ticking me off, because every time it disconnects for a total of nine minutes, then reconnects. The signal is still there, but DNS craps out.

Mr. Jingles

I was wondering if you ever found a solution to wireless disconnect problem. I have searched the internet and found nothing that solved my disconnect problem. If you solved yours could you let me know how you solved it. This is really a problem for my daughter and she is very upset.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've the DI-524 with firmware version 3.02C. On the very rare occassion, not more then once a week, it'll disconnect for a few seconds, then reconnect.

my linksys is experiencing similar problems. My laptop always says "strong signals" but I can't use the internet! This is nearly driven me crazy.

I live in a pretty big house and the router is downstairs, could this be a problem? If so, which routers out there are powerful enough to send signals up?

I just got rid of my D-Link di-784, same problem, tried just about EVERYTHING. Worst. Router. EVER. Honestly, go do yourself a favor and get a Linksys. I'm so much happier with it than the d-link, I'm sure you will be too.

I think it depends on what type of wireless security setting you are using as part of your firmware. I was experiencing similar problems with my linksys because I was using a WPA-pre shared key. It renews itself based on a user time limit that is set in the firmware. Basically every 3600(default) seconds, the default the router resets itself for optimal security. So I was just wondering if maybe you were also setup with a WPA-PSK and experiencing the same issues. I just switched mine to a WEP and used the 128 bit encryption and that it is just as safe and hasn't messed up yet.
