The parents of 14-year-old James Watkins agree he deserves school discipline for wearing a penis costume outside a dance at Steilacoom High School.But they want a "sexual harassment" note about the incident dropped from his school record. The Pioneer Middle School eighth grader and his parents agree the prank Saturday was wrong, but they say he did not sexually harass anyone. He was suspended for three days and his father Mark says the notice says it was for "sexual harassment, misbehavior at school-sponsored event, disruptive conduct and dress and appearance." James Watkins says he was just trying to be funny, and others were laughing and having their picture taken with him. He complied when teachers asked him to take off the costume. If students were taking pictures with him and he took off the costume when asked by faculty, how was he harassing anyone? The real question is where did he get the costume from? If anyone felt uncomfortable because of the subject matter of his costume then it is sexual harassment. This goes for students and teachers alike. Once you get out into the corporate world you will learn what sexual harassement really is and that other people can be quite uncomfortable about things you may find funny. I hope he was suspended for a few days and this stays on his record. Stupid stuff like that has no place in public education. It's selfish and disrespectful to the students and school. Its insane how some people act but then again like someone else said if there was just one person who didnt like it and said so then thats sexual herasment but if not then theres no reason for that charge.
