Hum
RENO, Nevada (AP) -- The mayor of Las Vegas has suggested that people who deface freeways with graffiti should have their thumbs cut off on television. "In the old days in France, they had beheadings of people who commit heinous crimes," Mayor Oscar Goodman said Wednesday on the TV show "Nevada Newsmakers." Goodman said the city has a beautiful highway landscaping project and "these punks come along and deface it." "I'm saying maybe you put them on TV and cut off a thumb," the mayor said. "That may be the right thing to do." Goodman also suggested whippings should be brought back for children who get into trouble. source

xp1ode
There is nothing wrong with alittle whipping for those stupid little kids out in the streets doing **** they're not supposed to. I got them when i was little, so i don't see why this gov't is so against it. But that's just me, im not saying is ok to cut off someones limbs is ok, but the whipping part i'm for.... ~WinGz~
i agree cut off the little ****s thumbs, they ruin stuff that tax payers pay for, so heck, chop off their thumbs make them learn that its bad to graffiti stuff we pay for. you wouldnt want someone spray painting your 20,000 dollar car, so why have someone spray paint your 1000 dollar sign you just paid for using your tax dollars. y0sh
Should I bring up the 8th Amendment? Or do uber-conservatives not believe in the constitution? No? Well, I guess it doesn't matter then. Graffiti is an art. Let the talented artists do as they please. It's not as if he (or you, or anybody else) could do better - nor is a blank wall better. This adds character to an aging/boring view. y0sh
I am 100% serious. If you can prove to me that you are very skilled in urban art (graffiti), I'll let you decorate my walls INSIDE my house. Who needs wallpaper? If I have my own grunge artist to do it, then well and good. As I insinuated, those who just write gang names are not talented artists. I've seen art exhibitions of real graffiti and its amazing.

Scudworth
we are in the f**kin' 21TH CENTURY not the MIDDLE-AGES 586768288 Sometimes the old ways are the best. which idea scares you more: being taken down to the station and charged with mischeif, or having your thumb hacked off? I thought so. It's called a deterent. i agree cut off the little ****s thumbs, they ruin stuff that tax payers pay for, so heck, chop off their thumbs make them learn that its bad to graffiti stuff we pay for. you wouldnt want someone spray painting your 20,000 dollar car, so why have someone spray paint your 1000 dollar sign you just paid for using your tax dollars. 586768329 ruin? how does a layer of paint on a piece of concrete retaining wall ruin it? Graffiti is an art. Let the talented artists do as they please. It's not as if he (or you, or anybody else) could do better - nor is a blank wall better. This adds character to an aging/boring view. A side which is fully visible from the street, before you go saying that it doesnt count, because its out of view. I've seen tons of good graffiti, I think it actually helps to liven up urban areas, so-long as it is in appropriate spots, e.g. the side of a whitewashed old building. y0sh
Exactly, Scudworth. Instead of deeming it mischief, the officials should embrace graffiti. As you said, it livens up urban areas. I think it adds to the urbanism of a place. They should hold city-wide competitions and make graffiti in certain areas. Everyone could come witness the art.. bring in the artists, instead of punishing the graffitists. Btw, that school project sounds awesome. Got any pictures? bangbang023 Veteran Posted November 5, 2005 Veteran Share Posted November 5, 2005 You're actually promoting graffiti? It's beautiful, but the city owns the property and doesn't want it there. Simple as that.
Aviator747
HMMMM! So how about they give the true graffiti artists a free place to express themselves. Say like the insides of a new casino. Like the other guy said the people that spray gang tags and names all over the place should have this done to them. NOT, the people you spray beautiful murals and the sort. It's Las Vegas, anything can be made to happen there. You have Egypt, Paris and NY there. Casinos galore. And anything else you can think of. y0sh
Who me? Yeah I condone graffiti - as long as the art exhibits some sort of talent. I don't want to see somebody's name, or gang name. It is beautiful, and I know the city doesn't want it, but I was just suggesting what the city officials should do, in my opinion. Right on, Aviator.
