Chicken Ticketed for Crossing the Road

May 9, 2005

RIDGECREST, Calif. - Linc and Helena Moore may have finally learned the answer to that age-old question: Why did the chicken cross the road? Because the chicken doesn't know jaywalking is illegal.

Kern County Sheriff's Deputy J. Nicholson does know, however. The deputy issued a ticket on March 26 to one of the couple's chickens for impeding traffic on a road in Johannesburg, a rural mining community southeast of Ridgecrest.

The Moores arrived in Superior Court on Friday to plead not guilty to their chicken's alleged transgression. A trial was scheduled for May 16.

Nicholson has declined to discuss the matter, but sheriff's Sgt. Francis Moore said chickens on the roadway have been a problem in the community of 50 residents. Officials didn't believe it could be resolved by simply issuing the couple a warning.

"Sometimes you have to let people talk to the judge," Moore said.

The chicken's owners say they believe they were cited because they were among several people who complained that sheriff's deputies haven't done enough to control off-road vehicle riders who damage roads and create dust and noise in their neighborhood.

Sheriff's officials say that isn't so, adding they are doing what they can to keep off-roaders away from the area's homes.

"The chicken thing has nothing to do with the motorcycle thing," Moore said.

It seems we have another attention seeking publicity craving Copper and Town.

Chicken can't pay the fine, so the Copper is seeking attention.

This is just like the case where they arrested a donkey in Texas and sectioned a budgie in Hull.

When are people going to realise that it doesn't make sense to hold animals to our own standards? I blame PETA and groups like the PLF for trying to make us confused.

In a related article, 2 F/22 raptor fighter jets were ordered to drop a flock of pigeons when tehy flew over the Ridgecrest's community library, said to have been flying below the allowed altitude. The navy tried to contact the birds, but they failed to cooperate so they had no chance but to call prresident bush, who agreed for the strike. In an official statement by pres Bush, he said this nation is under errorist threat and therefor he decided to take the brave decision of attacking all countries which pigeons flock to when they migrate in winter. Then Mr Bush held a press conference in which he confirmed that 90% of all pigeons have been dropped, the rest were sent to a prison facility where they will be tortured and sexually assaulted. Before the conference was over, a reporter asked the pres an OT question. "Of course Mr Bush you have heard today about the 4 Brazilian soldiers who died today in theat accident, what's your reaction?'. Mr bush was shocked...then he knealed towards his advisor and asked "How much is a brazillion?"
