Deaf Spacker
Hey guys its my first post in this section so be gentle :p I'm looking to get into photography and as such I need a digital camera, my budget is from 200-300 UK pounds and other requirements are: Comes with rechargable batterie(s) Includes carrying case/pouch Must be lightweight and fairly small Tripod is not a must but would be a bonus :) I have no brand loyalty so recommend any brand
Lan88
i saw this link worth checking out. I'm not so sure about the pricing in UK, but since you are looking a digital camera, i'd prefer any compacts from canon and pansonic. the powershot series and the lumix fx9's or the lz2's are my pick. however you did mention about rechargables so, im not so sure about that. most canon compacts use double AA batteries  and one more thing, get a compact camera that has manual controls, so that you can experiment with it :D
Objexxx
canon powershot sd400 ;)
Brandon
Canon's SD series is popular, along with the A610 and A620. If you wanted somthing a bit bigger but better zoom look at the Panasonic FZ5
Pink Floyd Veteran Posted January 3, 2006 Veteran Share Posted January 3, 2006 I'd say any Nikon because they hae their own batteries with the nikon charger otherwise, I'd say Canon look at http://www.dpreview.com the only site you need IMO
killtoskate1217
Canon, something in the SD series. You can go for a SD400, which is a 5MP camera w/ 2" screen. Or the SD450, which is basically the same thing, except it has a 2.5" screen. Then you have the SD500 and 550, the 550 has 7.1MP. They all have tripod capabilities, rechargable li-ion batteries, the whole nine. I had a SD450 myself, and its lightweight, compact, easy to use, but great quality. Lan88
Tripod is not a must but would be a bonus :) quick question, what do you mean by that line? er, does mean it must come with a tripod or something else....
Deaf Spacker
quick question, what do you mean by that line? er, does mean it must come with a tripod or something else....  I meant being able to use a tripod with the camera would be a bonus :p Cheers for the suggestions guys, I'm gonna check out the sites mentioned :) I was checking out the Sony Cybershot T3 Digital Camera. Any thoughts on that?
Lan88
as far as i know all camera's are able to use tripods :D hmm, i don't really dig camera's that don't come without manual controls and abit of optical zoom... i'm not a sony user so i'm not that sure about the camera. it does look similar to a nikon coolpix s3 and some of the other thin point-and-shoot cameras... here's a good review of the T33. Clicky. Edited January 3, 2006 by Lan88
Deaf Spacker
Right I've set my eyes on this beauty can anyone give me their opinion? If I get it I'll buy a 512mb memory stick to go with it. EDIT: Just spotted this which is cheaper then the Sony, I'm torn between the two! Help! :( Edited January 4, 2006 by Lazy Tiger

Syxxpacc
Currently reading a review on the Nikon and it seems impressive well if u dig that nikon then also take a look at the panasonic lumix fz5 :) i bought it and im happy with it and lan88 also has this ubercamera :) it has a 12x optical zoom and is a 5MP camera. Nikon has 8x optical zoom and has 8MP but then again the MP difference wouldnt give u any quality advantage. If i was between this nikon or panasonic fz5 i would go with the fz5 because i just love it :)
Koolslacker
canon powershot sd400 ;) I second that. In fact, if you can find SD450 or SD550, go with that. Couple of my friends have SD cameras and they all love it. It is easy to use and the image quality is simply amazing.
Deaf Spacker
Can anyone link me to UK sites selling the SD cameras? Argos and even cameraworld.co.uk don't seem to sell them :/ Edit: Is the SD series known as a different series in the UK?

Danellis
I might be a bit too late here but let me reccomend the Fuji F10... Bought it a couple of weeks ago and it's fantastic. It's available everywhere - Amazon.co.uk, John Lewis, Dixons... I paid ?200 although it is available on amazon at ?190. Really do reccomend it! Feel free to ask me any questions about it.
