Nikon N60 SLR

Recommended Posts

Hey,

My Dad bought a Nikon N60 SLR right when it came out ( about 1998) with the insurance money we got when his N50 was stolen.

The thing is, however, neither my dad or myself know how to use cameras. Since my dad bought this, he has used it twice: once at a wedding, and once during a vacation.

He has the camera body, a lens (don't know if it came with it, but probably did) and a body-fitting case.

Is this a good camera? Is it worth keeping?

How much can this thing sell for?

I too have a N60, primarily as my only film camera. I just got a new Nikon D50 to replace my aging digital point and shoot, but that's another post. :D I'd keep the N60. It probably won't gain much on eBay, and it takes great pictures as a point and shoot on full auto mode. Plus it does have the ability to do some more advanced features, should you ever need them. If you're interested, I think I saw where Nikon was offering a discount on a new digital SLR if you traded in your old film SLR. That might be for you!! :D

Thanks for the reply

My Dad and I are both interested in learning how to take professional photographs, and the D50 appears to be a nice camera.

I don't know much about cameras, but it seems to me that the D50 has a good value for it's price.

I will do some research about that trade-in you mentioned. I live in Canada, so it might not be available here.

I don't know about the trade-in, but the D50 is available here: $725 for the body only and $920 for the body and kit lens.

You should learn with your N60 before you jump to the D50. Good placs to start: the dpreview.com forums, nikonians.org or fredmiranda.com

You DO realize that firmware is the only difference between the D50 and the D70? The CCD is exactly the same, as is the rest of the camera. The few extra features the D70 has is all contained in the different firmware revision.

Agreed, spend any money you have on a 50mm lens, its not hard to use, best read up on apeture and ISO ETC.
