Media Player Classic not playing DVDs

Recommended Posts

Recently my Media Player Classic hasn't been playing DVDs, I get a "DVD: Copy-Protect Fail" Error, and these are original bought DVDs.

The only thing i've installed recently is Autopatcher, could this have caused it?

Has anyone else got this error?

How do I get my dvds to work again?

:(

have you tried using WMP10?? i think some only play in WMP

You will also need a DVD decorer in order to view DVDs, and of corse a DVD drive,

MPC probably only plays unprotected dvds.

Just tried WMP and get a "Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because a problem occurred with digital copyright protection." error.

I've got a DVD drive and all DVDs worked before in MPC.

Ive tried VLC media player and that does work.

So why not MPC? :(

Did you install the Digital Rights Management WMP10 patch? I know this is included in Autopatcher.

Try uninstalling that patch via Control Panel (make sure you've ticked "Show Updates") and see if that changes things.

If you mean the "Update for DRM-enabled Media Players (KB891122)" Then I dont think I have. It shows up black in Autopatcher, and KB891122 isn't in Add/Remove Programs.

It was a longshot anyway.

After googling...on Microsoft.com:

C00D1163: A problem occurred with digital copyright protection

A troubleshooter is available to help you solve this problem. To troubleshoot the problem, see the "DVD Troubleshooter" topic in Windows Help.

the contents of which are below

"Restart the DVD player program and your computer.

Important

The following procedure might require you to restart your computer, which will close this troubleshooter. If possible, view this troubleshooter on another computer while you perform the steps on the computer you are troubleshooting.

To continue troubleshooting if no other computer is available

Right-click the page displayed on your screen, and then click Print.

Follow the steps in the printed copy of the procedure.

After your computer restarts, reopen this troubleshooter and answer each question as you answered it initially.

When you reach this page again, answer the question at the bottom, and then click Next.

Restarting the DVD player program or your computer often solves temporary display and other types of problems. Close and restart the DVD player program.

To close and restart Windows Media Player

On the File menu, click Exit.

Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to Entertainment, and then click Windows Media Player.

On the Play menu, click DVD or CD Audio.

If you are using a DVD player program other than Windows Media Player, refer to the manufacturer's documention for information on restarting the DVD player.

If restarting the DVD program does not solve the problem, restart your computer, and then try to play your DVD again.

Does restarting the DVD player program or your computer solve the problem?"

Yes or No?

If solved, hurrah!

If not, it gives this advice:

"Do you need to reset the copy protection software?

To prevent the illegal creation of perfect digital copies of DVDs, the information on most DVDs has been scrambled. Your DVD decoder and player have copy protection software that decodes the information on the DVD just before displaying it. If this software does not start correctly, you might receive a digital copy protection error. Try to reset copy protection.

To reset the copy protection software, remove the DVD from the DVD drive and then reinsert it. This will force the copy protection software to reset.

While the DVD is out of the drive, make sure that your DVD is clean. If your DVD is scratched or dirty, the DVD drive may not be able to read it correctly, and you might receive error messages.

Can you play a DVD after you reset copy protection?"

Yes or No?

If solved, hurrah!

If not, it gives this advice:

"Do you need to install or update a decoder?

If you have been able to play DVDs on this computer before, and you receive an error message, you might be able to solve the problem by restarting your computer.

If you receive an error message the first time you try to play a DVD, you might not have a decoder installed, or your decoder might need to be updated.

In addition to your DVD-ROM drive and player software, you must have either a hardware or software decoder in order to play DVDs. A hardware decoder also requires a decoder driver. Decoders and their drivers are available from third-party manufacturers.

If you have an older decoder installed, contact the manufacturer of the decoder to obtain an updated version that is compatible with Windows XP.

Updated, Windows XP compatible DVD decoders are available through the following DVD solution providers: Solution Providers Decoder Products

National Semiconductor Corporation Mediamatics DVD player

MGI Software Corp. Zoran SoftDVD and MGI SoftDVD Max

Ravisent Technologies Software CineMaster or CinePlayer 1.0

InterVideo, Inc. WinDVD

CyberLink Corp. PowerDVD

Can you play DVDs after you restart your computer, or after you install or update your decoder?"

That's the last piece of advice it gives.

Try installing the K-Lite Codec pack. It has some DVD decoders in that, I believe.

Interesting, maybe the company that produced the DvD uses a different protection file.

I just played a rental DvD in classic to see what the problem was and it played fine.

I've tried lots of different DVDs now, and the same thing happens, which is confusing as it did used to work!

I've got a new motherboard coming soon so that will be a good excuse for reinstalling windows, which im sure should fix this prob also.
