hmm im not sure if it would work or not, but most monitors made for pcs usually dont wor for macs :( for some reason, maybe someone would know, and if its possible to use just a normal pc monitor thats not mac compatible with a mac, then it'dd be pretty cool (n save a bit of money cuz most of the monitors im lookin for that have mac compatibility are usually slightly more expensive)

Some misinformation here. Any monitor will work with any PowerMac within the past couple of years. The video cards usually come with a dvi and vga output. Laptops I think you'd have to get the adapter. And for the Cube, again it depends on the video card.

Is there any particular mac that you were asking about?

don't know the exact model. i'm actually asking for a friend who is looking to get by with a PC monitor because they're cheaper. i do know that he owns an older Mac if that helps.

Well you need to realize that there is no such thing as a "pc monitor" or a "mac monitor". A monitor is a monitor. However, Apples lcd screens do come with a dvi connector. Every other monitor (viewsonic, sony, etc) come with vga.

If he has an old Mac, just look at the connector. It's pretty easy to tell the difference between vga and dvi. It there are two video connectors, he is fine.

no, apple displays come with a special connector that is only for apples, it is not a dvi. the converter that does apple display connector to dvi is $150

He doesn't need a DVI connector since he is connecting a CRT to it. [link]

Note: you will only need this adapter if you have one of the G4's listed on that page.
