Quartz Extreme Question

Recommended Posts

Simple question. Are the new iBook 700mhz models with the mobile radeon chip Quartz Extreme compatible? I know the minimum system requirements, but I keep reading reviews and articles saying that the ibooks aren't compatible. Are they referring to the older 8 meg ATI ibooks or the new ones?

um, the new compositing engine for OS X.2. Basically what means is it's the thing that takes the rendered windows and pops them on top of each other before being send to the video card. However, this version takes all those layers and transfers them as textures for the video card to render. By placing the compositing burden on the video card and not the processor, the graphical load is distributed a bit more evenly. And we experience a faster interface as a result :D

There is a way to force to O/S to use Quatz Extreme. But it unadvisable if you dont have atleast at 32Mb gfx card

Quartz Extreme is enabled by a 16 MB gfx card without and "forcing".
