azazel-
Simple question. Are the new iBook 700mhz models with the mobile radeon chip Quartz Extreme compatible? I know the minimum system requirements, but I keep reading reviews and articles saying that the ibooks aren't compatible. Are they referring to the older 8 meg ATI ibooks or the new ones? Basically what means is it's the thing that takes the rendered windows and pops them on top of each other before being send to the video card. However, this version takes all those layers and transfers them as textures for the video card to render. By placing the compositing burden on the video card and not the processor, the graphical load is distributed a bit more evenly. And we experience a faster interface as a result :D

azazel-
To add on to what timdorr said, basically Apple now uses OpenGL to render and accelerate the GUI.
