Realtime satellite camera

I know a guy in Germany, and he told me that last week, he could tell that my hedge had been gone from looking at a real-time satellite camera. Are there any services like this that people know of? He was right, we had it removed to make way for a fence, but google maps is still using a picture from a few years ago.

rofl I played a similar trick on a guy on MSN, I said I hacked into a NASA satellite and I can see what everyone is doing. It was a 3 man convo, first guy (Call him "AS") second guy (called him "TE") and me. Me and TE was messing around with AS, and I said I am spying on TE with one of my NASA satellites and collaborated and got all out acts together. I told TE in a second MSN window to pretend he is going to brb, while I said I am watching TE tripping over TV cords, talking to his dad, eating a pepperoni pizza etc to AS. AS wasnt really smart, and he believed everything I said, and yeah... it was funny.

Anyway, back on topic. No such thing...

@OP This is pretty cool, but I doubt it is true. Maybe he asked someone who lives near you? Why don't you ask the guy how he could tell?

The guy already lied and said he saw it from a real-time satellite image.

It's possible if they work for certain organizations or the Government who have access to aerial photography satellites but highly unlikely.

Do you have CCTV near you? Some cameras are broadcast to the net for people to see which is quite cool.

If you watch 24 you know Real-Time satellite is no such thing, though there is somewhat satellites that can give you capture of the location every couple of minutes.

I love using Google Earth and those other aerial map sites. I was showing this guy I worked with where I grew up (a normal suburban neighborhood) and then he found his house - which is on a lechee farm in South Africa. He was like, "This mountain range is the eastern border of our farm". I was like, "Umm, that barely visible hill right there is Magic Mountain, our sledding hill. Ya." lmao.

I just read an article on this stuff, it's about a GeoVille and TeleAtlas system that helps refine census data, crazy what they can do with this sort of technology these days.

Geoinformation from space sharpens population density maps

In response to a growing demand for sharpened census data, GeoVille Information Systems has developed

Of course, because a TV show has access to everything that the government does.

If you watch Enemy of the State, you know that there ARE satellites that can do real-time imaging.

I find Windows Live Local to be more recent than Google Maps, it could be that Windows Live Local also has "birds-eye imagery" which is still being taken and is definately more recent.

Not to mention how the resolution of the satellite camera would have to be pretty damn good to pick out a bush on your yard.

Google Earth uses a variety of "Earth imagenery" providers, som of the images are from a satellite, others are taken from an Airplane or Helicopter.

For example, some african images are taken from an airplane.

I know that Google Earth uses a combo of NavTeq maps (used for Garmin and TomTom Rider) and TeleAtlas (used by TomTom GPS and Cobra)

True, my friend from S. Africa seemed to have much more clarity than my shots of home, which seemed more grainy - probably as a result of satellite versus air photos like you said.
