d3dx9_27.dll missing?

i cant play oblivion or FEAR.

i get the same message:

"This application has failed to start because d3dx9_27.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."

this is directx 9 isnt it? i have directx 9 installed...FEAR installs directx 9 when it installs.

Try reinstalling FEAR, but this time, change the properties of the setup.exe to run in compatible for windows xp.

on the install disc there's an directx folder, just click on the setup exe and you're ready to go

Yeah the reason why you're getting this error is because Direct3D was updated in Febuary, and current games like Fear run specifically on that particular file. Usually a game will come with the Febuary Redist, so if you get a Direct3D installation prompt after install, do not cancel it.

There is a April 2006 update for DirectX 9.0c now!

The reason for the confusion is that Windows Update will not mention these updates, and all the versions are still labelled as 9.0c. :( You will need to manually check and download the Redistributable file from the URL above to upgrade.
