Lactic acid is actually muscle fuel

Recommended Posts

yes, lactic acid is anarobic

but I always knew it was the low pH of the lactic ACID that made you sore, so really lactic acid DOES make you sore if you are out of shape or forgo anarobic exercise for multiple reasons

Biologically, your body's very best source of energy is fat. Glucose (stored as muscle glycogen) is primarily used in our "fight or flight" response, and as a quick start energy source, however, the amount of it present is miniscule compared with fatty acids.

no, you have about 2,000 to 2,500 calories of glycogen in your muscles and liver, and NO, glycogen is not the "flight or flight" fuel, creatine phosphate (and others that create ATP) are, glycogen is your arobic fuel, along with later fats if glygen is all used up or lower intensity activies

But it is also known that when you suffer muscle pain and feel very tense after hard workout the only solution is more work, resting (for more than 2 days) is the worst thing to do.

time

But if you want to hit hypertrophy you need to rest and eat so your muscle fibers recover.

  • 1 year later...

ok.... medical student talking here,....kids chat is over

from what i have read in the books....assuming they are right....

you are right ...lactic acid is made upon anerobic respiration (glycolysis) caused by intense exercise etc and deposits in muscle tissue

upon absorbtive stage(not starving) its taken to the liver where it utilises atp to convert into glucose in a process known as cori cycle...

after so,,, it goes back into blood stream where it gets absorbed back into muscles to be used again as a fuel

however it does tire up your muscles... as it accumlates in myocytes(muscle cell) and can disrupt normal cell processess...
