update your iPod and with it you'll get....

a fixed the battery indicator that displays the levels properly.

I'll actually say that I've seen it show no batteries on my iPod a couple times when it should have been full... We'll see if this fixes this issue :D

Enjoy!

Two part question.

1) Does anyone know if this firware update limits the sound level so that it abides by French law?

2) Is it possible for me to update my Mac iPod in Windows? If so, what do I use?

I dunno about th 1st, but I'd most likely say no on the Windows update, without it formatting it as a FAT32 drive...

Of course there is ! if you take a Mac Ipod (WinIpod and Mac Ipod are the same, there is some sort of signature that make it recognized like win or mac, and the drive is formated differently) and use the apple updater for windows, it will reset your mac to factory windows default and have it formated to fat 32

i got one (Win Ipod) and very happy with it !

It sounds like he wants to keep his Mac iPod a Mac iPod and not format it, but update it through windows. As far as I know, you can't update a Mac iPod in windows (obviously) unless you format it to fat32. Then I think you'd have to format it back to hfs in order for it to work with iTunes.

Bummer about the software though. I was hoping it had some more updates then just the battery deal. Don't remember my iPod having that problem

I was talking about praseodymium's question. Were you looking for the 1.2.1 update for the windows iPod?

Ok i was misleading, well the only ways i know to let a mac ipod on hfs+ and update it vi a PC. Is either buying Xplay (that tool is pretty cool !) or using the combination of ephpod and macdrive.

hope it helps

For those who are looking to update their Mac iPod firmware within Windows, follow the following instructions.

DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

1. Obtain a copy of the Podtronics Windows iPod Updater v2, which is no longer available (so everything stops here if you can't get it). Install it. (iPod Updater is actually included in the latest version of EphPod [www.ephpod.com])

2. Download the 1.2.1.smi.bin firmware file for OS9 from Apple http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120153

3. Download the firmware extractor http://members.cox.net/ipodtools/

4. Run the firmware extractor program to extract the firmware. It'll say the firmware file isn't recognized, but it does extract the firmware correctly.

5. Plug in the iPod.

6. Run the Podtronics Updater. Load the 1.2.1 firmware you just extracted. If it's the right file, the program will say so. Then update it.

7. When it's done, unplug the iPod, and then plug it into the wall adater.

8. About 1-2 minutes later, it'll have 1.2.1 installed.

saw this over on the apple discussion boards:

"Yikes!!! Major bug. With 1.2.1, the hard drive is constantly spinning and won't shut off, even if it's had plenty of time to buffer songs. It's happened twice now. The first time it happened, I reset it. Then 20 minutes later (now), it's doing it again. If I hold down Play to put it to sleep, then the hard drive shuts down. When I press any button to just wake it up, the hard drive spins up again for no reason, and stays spinning.

Downgrading to 1.2 now."
