This is my collection of default wallpapers from the likes of Microsoft, Apple, various Linux distros, and OEM builds. I share this project with a friend of mine, and we have compiled the list of wallpapers that you'll find in the downloads through the course of several years. I am currently working on creating a photo gallery to host these as well, but in the mean time I have left the better part of this original post as a hint as to the sort of walls you will find in the RARs. I believe I have weeded out most of the dead links from this post, but if any were left behind, they will be gone when I get the new gallery online.

It took a long time to create the RARs (my computer's not what it used to be), and 7 hours of upload time to get them on the server. I may make other options available in the future, but unless there are any special needs (ie: a compelling number of dialup requests), these should do just fine.

I saw that I would need to split this after creating the complete RAR, and I hope that the splits I made are enough to serve what most people want. I have recently gotten a suggestion to post these on a torrent, and while that is an attractive option, I have not put the research into it as of yet. I will look into it, however, and see if it is a reasonable option for this. Until then, Download and Enjoy

*Note* I have contacted Microsoft, and have gotten the OK to share these. It is listed in the online copyright from Microsoft (view here, and see the "Screenshots" section). Apple never would return my emails, but given approval from Microsoft, I have not pulled the Apple wallpapers yet, and will not unless they do so request.

Now, I've done the comparing with the screenshots on Paul Thurrot's "SuperSite for Windows". It looks to be the actual tree at least, if it's not the same wallpaper. I've been told it's the same tree, but a year later and at a different angle.

Thanks for the nice comments guys. And yes, it takes quite a while to put just one of the update posts, but lucky me, I have a friend who helps with the uploading. I just make the post "pretty" to my liking, and send it off. Enjoy the collection, there will always be more coming, it just depends on how fast we can get new things. Remember too, if you wanna browse the pics themselves, you can go to the gallery page. It's all sorted and easy to view
