Connectivity Issues with MCE 2005

Recommended Posts

Firstly I'd like to state that I have looked around at all the various threads etc. but have not found a solution that has helped me- I have however found other people with the same problem :(

I previously had MCE and my 360 connected without fault. But since a reinstall of windows its been impossible to reconnect.

I've tried everything I can think of. The problem seems to occur when the extender setup tries to create a user account. I tried running the setup as Administrator with no changes. I tried manually creating the account, with no luck. I'm completly out of idea's. Please help!

Everything on the network side of things seems fine- it really does just seem a problem with the extender setup on the pc.

Very annoying seeing as one of the main reasons I got the 360 was as an extender

Thanks in advance :)

Hmm all I can think of is resetting your network settings on the 360, and then going on the xbox.com site and downloading the required software, installing it, and then connecting to the 360..

I think your problem may be that the 360 is looking for the older format, so finding a method of removing the previous network settings might help fix things.

Tried that :(

I think the problem is something to do with my PC, possibly in the .net framwork creating user accounts. However after a reinstall of the frameworks, theres still no joy

System > Computers > Windows Media Based PC > Disconnect

Done that?

And why did yours ask to create a user account? Mine didn't...

Oh, and another obvious point, when you disconnect, the setup code changes.

yup

And why did yours ask to create a user account? Mine didn't...

It doesn't ask, I was watching the event logs of where it fails. Media Center Extenders need a user account (MCX1, MCX2, etc.) on the PC to function. The Extenders access Media Centre through what is basically terminal services.

Oh, and another obvious point, when you disconnect, the setup code changes.

yup

So, It's all up and working now- and for anyone who wants to know how? Well it seems to be some odd error with a recent patch from Windows Update. If you re-install again, and setup Media Center and then the Extender before visiting Windows Update to download the 50+ updates there are at the moment(!), it works without a problem.

Long, tedious, but until someone finds out why this is happening to some people its gonna be the only option.

Microsoft don't even seem to recognise this is a problem and just blabber on about network settings which is somewhat frustrating when you know damn well you've done all that a million times.

Anyway, hope this helps someone.

edit: I am the typo king.... I can miss type anything...
