Question before buying a 360

Recommended Posts

So have like $350 on gift cards laying in my desk right now and i can't wait to get my 360, i'm kind of desperate LOL

i'm seriously thinking of getting a Core package and then buy the HDD later, don't really mind about wireless controllers or Xbox live right now.

but is there any other difference in the core system from the premium, like a less fancy face plate and stuff like that?

or should i wait and wait until i get more money and buy the premium?

ohh and should i buy an extended warranty? i'm buying it at beatbuy.

well, i can't buy it anywhere else, because i have this gift cards from bestbuy, worth $350.

but should i get some more money and buy premium then?

as for the extended warranty i'm just worried because of the heating issues i see everywhere, but i'm sure there is a lot of people with no problem with their 360.

heating issues have been fixed for the most part - just keep it ventalated and youll be fine. and yes save for the premium - its worth it. You'll have to drop another $40 for a memory card anyways....

youve got 90 days to buy the warranty

so what you're saying is that i can pay for the warranty within the first 90 days of standard warranty, not at the moment of purchase? that's good.

Also, the premium has the silver cd tray, which (i know its such a tiny thing (but it makes me happy!!)) does look a hell of a lot better than the plastic white one on the core...

Save and get the better one; didn't you see all the posts shuning the 360 core ;) (that's def. a sign you should not go with the core).

I got mine about a month and a half ago and I was having the same dilemma. After a session of pros and cons I went with the premium and, you know what? It was the right decision. Trust me when I say, get the premium. Do not waste your money on the core. All in all it is a better deal when you price the different components that you do not get with the core.

If you buy it at best buy you can purchase a PRP (Product Replacement Plan) for $50 I believe. If anything in the premium package breaks everything gets replaced rather than buying an MS warranty and having to send it off with the possibility of getting a refurbished xbox back.

Yeah, I'd wait and get the premium. With the core you'll have to buy a 64mb memory unit for $40 which will bring your total to only $60 less than the premium. Also, don't forget that you would only be able to have one XBL Arcade game at a time and wouldn't be able to download any demos (which will help with future dillemmas) with a core system, either.

I got mine just over 2 weeks ago. Got a smoking deal on a Core system. But.....

Once you get it home and get a game, you are not going to be able to save, and that will make you mad. So if you get the core you will want a HD or MEM Card by the time you played it for 5 mins.

As for the wireless controllers, I went and bought 2. You think they would have a bundle with a play and charge kit. No! I'm in canada so for the controllers it was:

60$ x 2 controllers

30$ x 1 Play and charge

10$ x 1 Rechargeable battery

so thats 160$ canadian for 2 controllers and 1 play and charge kit. Instead, me and the GF decided it would be cheaper to get some really good NiMH batteries and use the chargers I already have. So it was 140$ after tax instead of closer to 180$ after tax. Also if you get the Core, you will be spending 100$ US on a HD or 30$ on a mem card right away too.

It will add up very quick if you do not get the Premium.
