Jowood
I am just wondering what would look better, since I haven\'t received my xbox component cables yet. I have tried out Halo on the xbox 360 via emulation on my hdtv w/ component and it looks great What I am wondering is will the game played on an original Xbox via component connection version look worse? Does the Xbox 360 upscale xbox games to hdtv? Edited July 22, 2006 by Jowood
Matrix XII
No, the games in themself have to be HD, all (or almost all) 360 games are.
Jowood
No, the games in themself have to be HD, all (or almost all) 360 games are. That doesn\'t answer my first question, and after doing some research, Gamepro says otherwise: The secret is out, and GamePro can now report that the Xbox 360 will, in fact, be compatible with a large list of original Xbox games. But the real news is that the Xbox 360\'s powerful graphical processors will upscale original Xbox games to lush, crisp resolutions of 720p/1080i. Better yet, it applies FSAA (aka full scene anti-aliasing, a visual technique to enhance sharpness) to all backward compatible games. Translation: compatible Xbox games will look super-smooth and crisp on your Xbox 360.
Shadrack
No, the games in themself have to be HD, all (or almost all) 360 games are. I don't think that is entirely true. The textures will still look like puke in comparison to high-def textures, but I believe that the 3d renders will be much sharper on xbox360 due to the higher resolution and also higher anti-aliasing. I'm not 100% sure, but if you connected your xbox and xbox360 to an hdtv then you would see a difference. What ****es me off is that I have a 4:3 (it is actually 5:4) display (computer LCD) doesn't support most XBOX360 games. (The console video settings are right, BTW..so don't criticize me!). The only game I've found that works on my display is Dead or Alive 4 (which is fine by me because every other game I've tried SUCKS!). But then I plug in Halo 2 to play some multiplayer with a buddy... AND the screen is split vertically NOT horizontally. I can't for the life of me find a setting to change this and it is really bothering me. I think it is because the patch you have to download to play the game on the xbox360 just assumes widescreen. Jowood
I guess I will have to wait and see Games look crap on my hdtv from the xbox with the standard a/v connection
Andrew Lyle Global Moderator Posted July 22, 2006 Global Moderator Share Posted July 22, 2006 we'll Xbox 360 upgrades ALL old version games to a higher resolution.. it's not like night and day difference, it's a minor difference so to answer your question, it would look better on the Xbox 360. Trong
It is supposed to look better because of the higher resolution between 480P to 720P. Bungie said that the 360 adds more AA to the game.
icecaveman
It looks MUCH better but most text will look bad though as they usually use rasterized fonts in games and it was made for 480p.
Captain_Wang
As Trong said, emulated Xbox games get added anti-aliasing and upscaling.
Jowood
Silly me. I did not enable 720p, 480p, and 1080i mode on the Xbox dashboard. It defaulted to 480i which caused a vertically positioned rgb overlay on my screen :/ It was not that visible but very annoying I fiddled around with the Y Pb Pr cables, switched them around, poked at them, cleaned them, stabbed them....I thought it was a problem with the cheap cables... :x Looks even better now.
