Dead Rising [Definitive] Help & FAQ Thread

Recommended Posts

Since it appears a good amount of people are looking for help and advice with this game, including myself, I am starting this thread and going to merge the other two threads into this one. This will be the thread for all help, etc. related to the game.

Can someone please explain the Save System to me?

I fell like a complete moron, but I obviously screwed up when I died.

I chose Save Status, and after it said it was saving, it brought me back to the Main Menu and I had to start all over.

So when you die, I guess you have to choose Load Game instead of Save Status. Is this correct?

Man, I am so angry that they did not describe this better with the wording, as I figured I was saving my status and going back to my last load. Basically I just wasted an hour and a half of real world time.

Also, what is up with the decision to eliminate multiple save files... I mean seriously WTF is up with that?

The manual does say something about using your memory card or external harddrive to create multiple saves. Has anyone successfully done this yet?

So basically, when I die, what do I choose in order to get back to my last save point? And not start all over again?

I will be damned if I start a new Game every time I die, so someone please explain this to me.

Thanks In Advanced,

DL

When you die, choose to Load Game.

Dead Rising has only one save slot. Choosing to save your status erases your save game but allows you to start over with the same stats as you had when you died.

relax dirtylarry.. the game confuses the crap out of me too, when it said "load game" and "save and quit" i've always wondered, but risked losing all progress, so i always load from my last save position.

im not sure how to recover where you left off.. but glad someone tried it before i tried it 3 days into the game.

I am now more relaxed. :p

Honestly though they did a terrible job with the wording, they really did.

And what you said is exactly why I started the thread, I would have hated to get like 40 hours into it (game hours) and then screw up the save.

And this is word for word what it says in the manual about other saves...

There is only one save slot, but you can use a storage device or separate gamer account to create multiple saves.

When I got my 360 back in December, it was part of a Circuit City bundle. That bundle came with a memory card, but I have yet to ever even open it, so if I can use it for multiple saves, I am down to do so maybe.

And BTW I should mention, that I slammed the demo pretty hard when it came out for some technical difficulties...

I know the slight pause with the sledgehammer is still in the retail version, but honestly I must say that was me being way to critical and this small detail stuck out so much to me in the demo since it was the first weapon you have, but I now know it means little to nothing at all.

This game overall is just incredibly engaging, fun, and already kick's ass, despite this saving debacle I went through.

Honestly and sincerely the demo really does the full game absolutely no justice at all.

I can say with great confidence, If you liked the demo, I am pretty damn positive you will love the game.

Thanks again guys for the fast responses. (Y)

It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia is over, so I am going to go back and play some more. I guess the good news is the PP points I got are going to carry over.

Hell ya! the demo is fun as hell, but it's no where near as much fun during full game player. As for purchasing this game for $69.99 CDN, i don't think so.. thank you block buster for no late fees :)

So to get the save straight.. i can be on let's say.. Day 2, and have a level up health, and a level up storage (so 5 health bar, and 5 storage spaces, and lets say, 500 kills, and my PP is level 5) and hit "save and quit". So when i select New game, i will start with 5 heath bar and 5 storage spaces, 500 or 0 kills, and Level 5 PP, but restart from the very beginning?

you HAVE to play this game, even if it's just the demo.. theres nothing as fun as grabbing a shopping cart, and running over 200 zombies :D

P.S. what the hell do you do when you get the 2 japanese tourists, and you have to run outside and theres a jeep with 3 people shooting the CRAP out of you?

Saving When Not Dying

Pretty much the only way to truly save in the game is when you are at a Save Point itself.

Press B to Save, Choose the Hardrive you have been saving to, Choose to Overwrite (you have no choice) and then you can choose either End Or Continue. End brings you back to the main menu but with the save intact, and Continue means you just keep playing.

Next time you start the game up, just Choose Start Game, and then just choose Continue, not 72 Hour Game which will start a brand new game, and it will take you to where you last saved Last, either the bathroom or security room.

Saving When Dying

Basically always just choose to Load Game, which will again bring you to the last point you saved at, and all your level ups and PP will be intact from when you saved.

If you choose Save Stats and Quit or however it is worded when you die, that will keep all your stats intact, but cause you to Start the game itself from the beginning all over again. This is what confused me originally, as I did not know that by the wording. Although the little mistake worked out for me doing this since I got to carry all of the stats I got the first time around into the second time, so I leveled up pretty quick in a few areas.

It is weird how they chose to do this, but I guess it is for the people out there who ore obsessed with being as powerful as possible in all stats.

And I have no clue about the 2 Japanese tourist, I have not gotten to them yet. Hopefully I will soon. ;)

ok.. i think i know what the "save stats and quit" is for. Right now i accidently wasted a lot of time (theres 3 of us playing, and those guys wasted time running around doing dumb things), and basically we saved it leaving us with very little time to do the next mission, without running through everybody.

When time runs out on doing certain missions, you fail all the cases and die instantly.. this is where it gives you the option to "load game" and "save stats and continue". So if your stuck with not enough time to beat one of the missions, you "save stats and continue" and do it from the start.. but have more energy.

So DL, is the game worth buying or just a rental?, what did you do, did you bought it?

i think he buyed it. LOL.. check your english :p

the game is defenitely worth renting CY:G, it doesn't have a lot of offer in my point of view after you beat the game, but i don't know, i haven't been there. I can't see myself beating this game over and over. I have a theory you will have to eventually. Taking a look at the achievements, theres 50 of them, and some say "survive 72 hours, survive 5 days, 7 days". Right now i only have the option to play for "72 hours" meaning i unlock 5 days after i beat 72.. meaning the game gets harder :|

I bought it, and here is why...

From my understanding there is no way you can do every mission in one sitting, no matter what. As a result you are going to miss alot of the game itself and what goes on. Depending on what you do during the "72 hours of the game" which is really around 7.2 hours in real time, all affects how the game itself will end.

So there is a lot to do and see when playing you will not see the first time around... I can already tell you I have skipped little mini missions they have offered, and it has not ended the game for me, it just continues...

I also love horror movies, and figure this is a game I will throw in 2 years from now just because of the zombie factor. So I decided to buy it... I would say it depends on how much money you have to spend... I just completed a freelance job for somebody, and I got more money than I thought I would, so I decided to just go ahead and buy the game not really worried about it.

This can absolutely be a game you rent. But also be a game you buy because I personally feel it can be played through several different times in several different ways... ;)

Are you sure about this?

I thought the same thing you did... believe it or not I was doing the very first photographer mission and started off doing it with with just one health bar. While snapping a picture of him a zombie got me and I was dead. I chose save stats and continue thinking just like you it would restart that mission, but it restarted the entire game.

So just curious, you chose "save stats and continue" and it restarted you from the "start."

Is the start the start of the mission or the start of the game?

Now I am more confused then ever, because it definitely restarted the entire game for me...

i haven't actually done it yet, but you should re-read what i wrote, it's what i think happens when you choose save stats and continue, and for what reasons. Theres one part, coming up very shortly, theres nothing special happening, so im not ruining the game, but you find 2 japanese tourists (check your map during first night) and they both come with you. but if you do not save them, case 2-5 say "fail" and a message saying "the truth has been hidden" and you die.

OH YEAH.. we're all actually going out to see "the Decent" just because of this game. I loved dawn of the dead, thats why i enjoy this game so much :D

(anyone notice the message saying this game is in no way affliated with dawn of the dead, heh..)

quick question: is there a way to get more film for frank's camera?

I hear what you are saying, but wouldnt the way to try and do the Japanese Tourists again if you failed be just to load the game back to the last save point you were at before they died? And I stopped last night when it became night time, and the guy already told me about two tourists being barricaded somewhere, so I think I am really close.

I do think by choosing the Save Stats, it will take you back to the beginning of the entire game with the stats intact.

Again, I am not sure, and I am scared to try.

And just a word of caution, because I went to see it too because I love horror movies, but I hated the Descent. Absolutely Hated it. Was a little scary the first scene or two were it was meant to be scary, but then it just got stupid really quick.

Hopefully you feel different, let me know, but I felt like I wanted my money back right away after seeing it.

Just an FYI, this explains it the simplest...

Also, when you die and it asks if you want to save & quit- that really means save your status and start the game over. So be carefull..

thanks larry, that really cleared a lot of stuff up.. i'm stuck by the japanese tourists.. we ran around too long as the case study was going on, and saved it before the case ends.. so now when we start, we have to run to the tourists without stopping, and by the time we get them, we have to run back and return to the main control room... damn this game is deep.

only if this game was co-op larry.. we could help each other out

No problem man. I wanted to clear it up because it does make a huge difference, basically starting over from scratch if you choose that option.

And no doubt. I need the help too. This is getting crazy hard. I am on the tourists part as well and I keep dying.

I need help BAD. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Can you kill the guys in the jeep outside??? If so, how did you do it? I really want them out of the way, or else it is more or less impossible escorting people outside.

Dirty Larry

Have you figured it out yet?

Definitely Thanks for asking truly appreciated.

But I did indeed figure it out. It took me about 4 times, but once I "got it" it was pretty easy as well.

Despite the fact I more or les bashed the demo, the demo did not to the game justice. From the demo you get the feeling this game is only going to be about killing as many zombies as you can, but killing zombies rigth now is the thing I am concentrating on the least. Really. This truly is among my Top Games List for games that have come out on the 360 so far. Not even kidding.

Just how the whole game is set up is fantastic to me.

Now there is no question the save system still leaves a TON to be desired

Luckily I did have a memory card I never used until today and I can confirm that a memory card does indeed allow you to have multiple save slots, which helps out a ton. I now use one save slot for major events, and the other for the minor events in between major events. This is how it should have been by default, but luckily I had a memory card laying around I never used, so it finally has come in handy.

The fact that you are fighting against the clock and have to make decisions based on this truly adds so much to the gameplay itself. I have read A TON of people complaining about it on other game related only message boards, but it is the "race against time" aspect that I truly think took this game from good to great. It creates an amount of tension that would not be there otherwise.

A true surprise in all regards in my opinion.

Believe me, I know others will disagree with this statment, but I am happy I purchased it. Not only am I looking forward to replaying it once I am done with the first time around, but now own it simply based on the fact I will let friends borrow it who I know would have not played it otherwise. So I get to share with them what I feel is one of the better all around releases on the 360 to date. (Y)

i feel like purchasing this game too.. not only is it so cool to kill zombies, but the missions, food, cloths, shoes, weapons and other features in the game makes me want to complete everything. Doing every single mission is hard, but eventually i'll figure it all out in the end..

I lost my first go-round with Dead Rising because it didn't auto-save. I figured it would have at LEAST done that at the part where you wake up and go "You saved me?" on the couch in the security office. But NOPE. You have to turn around and manually save right then, or else start over completely when you do die.

I really enjoy the game so far, except for that crappy load/save design.

Yep, do just as lyle said, and it will work.

I will tell you exactly how I did it...

I did exactly what the guy in the video does. Exactly

However, A Very Important "Rumor" About This Part.

People on other message boards are claiming that after killing the convicts, if you do not destroy the Jeep after you kill them, that they will re-spawn again!! A decent amount of people are saying this, so to be safe instead of sorry they say to destroy the jeep as well. Just keep shooting it with the machine gun and/or drive it and crash into things. Of course while driving it you will kill some zombies while you are at it too.

You will know when it is destroyed when it is smoking and B is no longer an option. You might be able to blow it up but I was not able to before I ran out of bullets. But I could not choose B to enter it anymore so I definitely destroyed it I think, since I have not seen them since. I know there are other cars to drive eventually, so I would rather take out the jeep and make sure they do not come back as a lot of people are claiming.

Let us know how you do. I feel your pain, as this part drove me nuts as well. Absolutely nuts.
