Matt T Posted September 1, 2006 Share Posted September 1, 2006 Electronista claims that Apple may be holding a special press event on September 12th, 2006 based on an "official" email sent to Your Mac Life.The date corresponds to the start of Apple Expo Paris which runs from September 12th to 16th. It has already been announced, however, that there will be no Keynote event for the Apple Expo. Meanwhile, Businessweek also places an announcement from Apple in the same time frame. According to their sources, Apple plans to start offering Movie downloads through iTunes in mid-September at $14.99 for new releases and $9.99 for older movies. Finally, many users are expecting Apple to release Core 2 Duo based laptops in September, but no further hints of this have been revealed. Update: Mac4Ever is also reporting that Apple will be hosting a September 12th Event which will take place in San Francisco and be streamed to London. Update 2: MacBidouille confirms that there will be a Keynote in San Francisco on September 12th that will be relayed to London. It was originally reported that Steve jobs will not deliver a Keynote at Apple Expo. He will indeed not be in Paris; but a Keynote will be organized in Cupertino and relayed in London at Apple Europe HeadQuarter, where journalists have already been invited. I have my fingers on the order buttons for the second it comes available eSATA and a better graphics card (>= X1700) would be nice too, but just the Core 2 Duo would be good enough for me. My BusinessWeek colleague Ron Grover has exclusive details about how how Wal-Mart, as the largest seller of DVDs -- it sells about 40% of DVDs produced -- is unhappy at the prospect of Hollywood studios doing business with Apple and iTunes. But here's the best part, and a detail you won't see anywhere else: The announcement is expected by mid-September, with prices of $14.99 for new releases and $9.99 for older movies. I would have to guess is that there would have to be a new hardware product to go with such an announcement too, wouldn't you? Grover says says a "wider screen" iPod is on the way as well. So unhappy is Wal-Mart at the prospect of all this that its demanding lower wholesale prices on DVDs, and Wal-Mart exec David Porter has been "playing the heavy" with Hollywood execs. Additionally, he wants marketing help when Wal-Mart launches its own movie download site later on. Wal-Mart's leverage certainly makes these Hollywood execs nervous. Naturally this has studio execs spooked, and is irritating Steve Jobs, Grover reports. Jobs has apparently done some lobbying of his own around Hollywood, and is said to have personally called Wal-Mart honcho H. Lee Scott to express concerns. According to multiple reports, Apple will be hosting the event in San Francisco which will be also streamed live to London.MacOSXRumors now claims that Apple will be revamping the iMac line with the new Core 2 Duo (Merom) processor at this event, with the additional introduction of a 23" iMac. Larger iMac form-factor rumors were amongst the reject rumors for pre-WWDC rumors. Do i get the (probably) reduced price 20" or spend the extra dough on the 23", I'm also presuming that the 23" will have faster cpu speeds than the 20".. An AU$2000+ desktop computer should NOT have a mobile chip inside it. :crazy: At the very least, if Apple insist on using Merom, they should reduce the iMac's price by a few hundred dollars and have the 2.33GHz Merom in the 20", either as an upgrade or standard. I don't see why Merom is needed just to keep the iMac quiet. My school's IMB PC's have 3GHz Pentium 4 HT's, and despite having the towers right in front of your face, I can't hear the fans at all. The towers are fairly small actually, but I see your point.AFAIK Merom and Conroe offer pretty simular performance. If you don't like it, get a Mac Pro. The Conroe has a larger L2, higher clock speeds and a faster FSB - how could their performance be similar? Not to mention, Conroe is cheaper. For $2000, I could get a very nice Dell (hardware wise - forget software for now) with a Conroe, so why would anyone buy a similar priced system with worse specs? Will that attract more customers? Will that cause PC users to say "wow, I think I'll switch now"? No, it won't. Merom is a very nice chip, but putting it in the iMac is a bad choice.
