OMG, I got a warning! Now what?

Recommended Posts

Heck, I don't even know what my level is anymore. Didn't it used to show up all the time to the user? I WAS up to 80% at one time. I DO remember getting 2 reductions a LONG time ago, so should be at 40% or lower. Edit: No warning is showing up for me. Am I at 0% now then, and if so.............. :woot:

Yes, it used to show up on all of your posts. I don't know whether it was intentionally or unintentionally disabled. I believe it stopped showing after the 2010 upgrade (when there was a lot of downtime).

If you PM me, I'll tell you your warning level.

Can we maybe get some official clarification on this? As I said, I don't think I've yet to have my warning go over 0%, but seeing that bar reassured me in the past, and now I don't know if I have a warning and just don't know where to look, or if I'm still at 0% and we just removed it from being viewable.

Some might say I'm paranoid, but it's only paranoia if you're wrong and I would like to be sure. ;)

Haha, yeah, I've gotten a warning 2 or 3 times in the past. Sometimes it's worth it to call someone out for being a moron, haha.

I would point out that if someone is a moron then it probably isn't necessary to point it out as we should all be able to see it for ourselves anyway.

I always found the warning indicator, even though I only had 0%, disturbing. I'm glad it doesn't appear unless you have already offended. ;)

Yeah, I am not a fan of waving warning levels in people's faces. There is some value to it appearing when a user visits his/her own profile but other than that, I don't think it is necessary to see it on every post. We staffers do but there is value to that.

How do you know if you get a warning? Is there a flag on the top of the forums or a PM or something?

Not entirely certain, used to be they displayed it publicly, as well as had a section in your profile, however, a quick search i cannot find it anywhere.

You'll receive a PM from the staff member who issued the warning. Your warning level is shown in your profile, or at least it used to be.

Yeah, I thought this may be the case. I'll raise this issue with the staff.

You probably have this setting disabled:

Allow all other non-protected groups to see their own warn level and reasons

Switching it to "Yes" will let members see their own warn log on the same places mods do.

If you still want to hide warns for normal members in posts, you can do a simple skin edit in "userInfoPane" (under global templates):

Find (somewhere on the bottom):

<if test="authorwarn:|:$author['warn_percent'] !== NULL">

Replace with something like:

<if test="authorwarn:|:$author['warn_percent'] !== NULL && $this->memberData['is_mod']">

Someone who gets a warning needs to cross the Alps, wear a sackcloth and walk barefoot in the snow to the gates of Canossa, beg for forgiveness, and fast until forgiveness is given.

Sometimes I hate myself because I have this kind of instant imagination and I've just crossed my mind with that upside chromatic beauty ...
