kjordan2001
Unix? You won't be able to get a copy of straight old unix unless you buy from some company like IBM, and that's only for business type things. If you want something that's like the old Unix, freeBSD or slackware or gentoo are about as close as you'll get. www.linuxiso.org has a most, if not all of the distros. kjordan2001
Which one? I suggest, you to start with google.com .. LOL!!!!!! That seems to be everyone's answer these days. Maybe they should just add an autoreplier to the forum that says that. ;) :D :p
mezz
Hehe, I did the test search for unix right before I replied. It answered to this question, which it included FreeBSD, Tru64 UNIX and others.. I always use google.com everyday, right before I ask people any of question. Google.com usually covered to my homework questions. ;)
Almighty1
Heh, might I suggest a few. mezz
*BSDs will work fine on the old machine, so Linux too.. I have friends that who are running IRC server on p166 to p233 machines with FreeBSD and NetBSD, they all run very smooth as whistle..
Jessterw
I would have to recommend FreeBSD. I've been using it for years and it's by far more stable than most other OS's out there, including Linux. Mezz is right too, it will run on damn near everything without so much as a hiccup. kjordan2001
BTW: Linux is not Unix.. Check -> www.gnu.org.. Very much true. Linux is a Unix based OS though. So most anything you find on Unix will be in Linux...and then some.

No, Linux has been written from stratch by Linus.. Not most stuff are same as in Unix, unless some Linux distro that who are try to make it very near Unix-like such as Slackware, CRUX and etc.
Almighty1
BTW: Linux is not Unix.. Check -> www.gnu.org.. Yeah, haha. Linix is a kernel or when added with other components, a Unix-like clone OS that has both BSD and System V commands in it written using Minix by Linus Torvalds :)

Slackware's packager or author Patrick Volkerding uses FreeBSD ;)
