Well wouldn't failure to release the source code for any Linux distribution be a violation under the GNU Public Licence? So it's absolutely pointless to try to point something like that out.

actually mplayer doesn't come with the gui as standard unless it's specied with the configure "--enable-gui"

you can just go into your home folder and in the folder .mplayer there should be a config "it can be empty" just add the line gui="Y"

No, that's company's decisions. When, the companies release the source code, then you can compile or do anything with it on your own box with any of Linux distro. Or, you can create script that will do the download their source code by automatic (or users have to download on their own cuz of agreement for download), patch, compile, install and etc by for the users. That's what Gentoo Linux/BSD are doing. If it's open source, then you can do anything with it such as include in the Linux by defaut or whatever.

BTW: When, they release the source code for Linux, it means it's for Linux. Linux distros is Linux. I don't understand why you keep discussion, when I already made the point in the second/third replied.
