Note:

Softpedia guarantees that Orbit 1.0.0.2 is 100% CLEAN, which means it does not contain any form of malware, including but not limited to: spyware, viruses, trojans and backdoors. But right after install Orbit is trying to connect to DuDu.com (chinese website) and scanning with Ad-Aware SE Professional the things are getting worst :

- Adware.DuDu * 3 objects

- Adware.DesktopMedia * 1 object

So try this at your own risk, can be just fp or not.

No, is not a copy of FlashGet, is a Net Transport clone; i opened Orbit.exe with ResHack and i see they left some BitTorrent components so since FlashGet doesn't support BitTorrent but Net Transport does, i presume it's a Net Transport copy.

Thanks Dcmouser, interesting but the Orbit developer didn't replied to Mouser question:

Why Orbit does it connect to their server?

I think maybe because of the dht, that's fine for me but why Orbit want to connect to DuDu.com (malware) ? What's the affiliation between Orbit and DuDu.com?

Its because they're using servers in a subnet that belongs to DuDu.com. I had a chat with support about it and he wrote that they'll find other servers to use that aren't affiliated with spyware websites.

  • 1 month later...

Came across Orbit Downloader 1.32 recently at Neowin Software news. So, is it safe to use? How is it compared to Download Express?

Yes, now it's safe. Even both (Download Express & Orbit) are download managers Orbit is very different, starting with the GUI, more features and better download speeds. You should try FlashGet too.

actually it does, i accdiently opened a torrent with flashget earlier and it started downloading it :o

im running flashget build 1.80.1002.

Although azereus does a far better job of downloading torrents flashget CAN do it.

Hmm... FlashGet is a bit bloated for me. That's why I'd stop using GetRight years ago. Using Download Express now as it's not bloated. May switch to Orbit Downloader if it's resource-friendly. What say you all?
