stefmeister
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=5032 Seems the PS3 is downscaling the images on some older HDTV's that don't support 720p. The PS3 is meant to upscale to 1080i, however its actually downscaling them to 480p on HDTV's missing the 720p resolution. I actually read this a few days ago after a friend told me about it but i just thought it was a setting he had selected on his PS3, turns out its actually a problem with the PS3. Sony are blaming the problem on the TV's rather than the console.
jordanspringer
Sony are blaming the problem on the TV's rather than the console. at least they're fixing it, thats good to hear!

SnowRanger13
Yup I'm sure 1.2 Firmware for PS3 will be out soon. My TV is 720p native though so I'm happy, it will be a nice fix for others.
Huleboeren
10% of all TVs are HDTV - how many of those 10% are actually those old crappy ones? :p
brentaal
I wonder how many of those "old crappy HDTV's" are Sony's.
spenser.d
If there's a fix in the works for it, how can he possibly say it's the TV's fault and not the consoles'. That is entirely bogus. It's their fault for not thinking about such a scenario in the first place. -Spenser

There's 0 of that in the article 10% of all TVs are HDTV - how many of those 10% are actually those old crappy ones? :p Crappy old ones. If it's 10%, then it's probably 99% of that. 1080p only be became affordable in the past several months. So there are two issues right now that are affecting those that don't have 1080p tvs... 1. 720p tvs get the end of it when it comes to blueray playback 2. 1080i tvs get short changed as well because of there being no supposed scaler
