Sony PSP PSX emulator cracked.

Recommended Posts

From just about day one, the holy grail of the PSP homebrew scene has been PSX emulation, and while much has been accomplished on this front, the spiffiest emulator yet happens to come courtesy of Sony Computer Entertainment Itself. Of course, that emulator entails a pay-per-download scheme, limited catalog and requires a PS3 to make it all work, right? Not so much anymore, thanks to hacker extraordinaire Dark_AleX and his new Custom Firmware 3.02 OE-B, which lets you convert your very own PSX ISOs and run them at full speed on the PSP. OE-A worked as a hack for Sony-released download titles by stripping the DRM, but it sounds like OE-B is the real deal here. Sure looks like those PSP fanboys are going to be having some happy holidays this year. Keep reading to spy an incredibly blurry vid of the hack in action.

Makes me wish I still had my PSP lol. I have a few PSX games I purchased that I would love to stick on the PSP.

Well I've said this a few times: the day someone tells me I can run my Final Fantasy VII and VIII games on a PSP is the day I'll buy one no matter WHAT it costs. Not to mention Tekken 3 and Gran Turismo 2 and oh so many more.

Brilliant timing for me lol - since I had a 4GB stick for xmas. So now my boxing day is going to be installing my new PC games, playing them, ripping my PSX games and putting them on the PSP and trying them out lol

Bear in mind this requires installing customised firmware and isnt supported by Sony.

Hahahhahaha!

I'm trying this in about 20 minutes... wish me luck.. I should be either playing FF9 in 20 minutes or throwing my PSP out the window in frustration!

I'm tempted to buy a psp now :woot:

Surely the downside is needing lots of memory sticks for all the ps1 titles?

Just looking at this post : http://www.dcemu.co.uk/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=38930 Got me excited. Lots of nice emulators :D

I even read about upcoming N64 emulation. MMmmmmm orcarina of time! Sorry if this is old news to everyone  But I've never really looked into the PSP scene.

I wouldnt go buying a PSP especially since the newer PSPs will have firmware that you cant downgrade, to flash this custom firmware you need a version 1.5 psp.

It's fairly easy to pick up a 1.5 from ebay. I might do so after I see how successful this is

anyone know how the emulator plays and is it full speed?

I wasn't expecting much from it but I was surprised to see that it runs games (the ones I've tried so far anyway) the same as the ps1 itself, possibly better.

you don't even need a 1.5 PSP.

From what I've seen (people I know getting PSP's over the past 2 months, and even for xmas), there are still a lot of 2.71/2.8 PSP's around in the shops (which can be downgraded to 1.5).

I think you have to remember, sony made the PS1 and its software themselves. So they know it better than anyone else on the planet. So I don't think it was that hard for them to actually make a PS1 emulator. (Actually, that is their plan with the PS3, but it wont be implemented until later, probably because they need to work on the PS2 emulation).

I'm thinking this deal doesn't look bad (?168)

I would like a white PSP and this comes with a 2GB mem stick/usb cable and screen protector.

Or is there some cheaper options at the moment?

* I could pick up a 2nd hand one a bit cheaper but im anal about scratches heh. I suppose if you can assure me firware up to 2.8 can be downgraded to 1.5 I might suck it up, go 2nd hand and save some cash.

With 2.7 and 2.8 you need someone with a 1.5 PSP and a copy of GTA Liberty City Stories, the one that is exploitable, once Sony sussed how people were exploiting they released another version of the same game with the patched exploit.

BTW that memory stick in that auction is fake, the fake Sony memory sticks have blobs of round glue on the plastic packaging like in the picture of that auction and the legit ones have oblong heat sealed marks.

Fake memory sticks either dont have 2gb capacity and are artificially marked as 2gbs or they do have 2gb but are of poor quality and will die after a few months use.

Yeah? :pinch:

Would never of known something like that, cheers. Might just try to pick up a vanilla PSP off ebay and buy a mem stick seperately
