TonyLock
Anyone know if a PS3 from the US will work in the UK? What about the games, are they region encoded? Also, does the $600 version come with any games? Thank you.

CNSBarry
NeoFlux is correct. You'll need a power converter. PS3 games are not region encoded. However if you plan to play any PS2/PS1 games on it then the UK versions will not work as those games are still region encoded (if i remember correctly). Same goes for DVD's - only Region 1 DVDs will work on it.

Dazzla Veteran Posted December 26, 2006 Veteran Share Posted December 26, 2006 PS1 and PS2 games are region locked. Although JPN is region 2 for DVDs it won't play PAL R2 DVDs. BluRay discs are region codec, US and JPN are the same region, UK is a different region.
CNSBarry
Blu-Ray movies i'm not sure about. UK Region 2 DVD's won't work, however Region-Free DVDs and Jap Region 2s will (UK Region 2's are different and the PS3 won't read them). PS1/PS2 games won't work as they need to be from the same region that the system is bought from, it's not quite the same as DVD regions, the regions for games are America (NTSC-U), Japan (NTSC-J) and Europe/Australia(PAL). PS3 games have no region encoding, so when the PS3 eventually makes it's way here you'll have no problems getting games from say GAME and playing them. theyarecomingforyou
I really wouldn't bother. Just wait for it to come out in the UK... it will have less bugs, more games and be guaranteed to work. It's only a few months to wait for the UK version and you will be able to play BR (which unfortunately includes region coding), DVDs and PS1/2 games bought locally - otherwise you'll have to buy the UK model as well in order to play those or live with a crippled console. Afterall, patience is a virtue.
1WayJonny
only blueray movies come with region power converter is fine , you will be ok... if you want my friends own shops in UK/DE and i can ask for you what they would suggest
webcivilian
You don't need a power converter for the PS3 as it has as universal power supply. PS3 Connected UK Read more at the DailyTech: The PS3 Dissected And it will work fine with any modern HDTV or even SDTV set that have PAL/NTSC signal conversion. Should be in the specs part of your TV manual. And it will play any DVD/Bluray/Games that are US/Japnese encoded or they are region free. Most the Bluray movies and PS3 games that are coming out are not region encoded.

theyarecomingforyou
only blueray movies come with region As do DVDs and, thanks to a nice u-turn, HD-DVDs. Sadly, movie companies continue to restrict the rights of users for little obvious reason other than to restrict free trade and competition. ToneKnee
Even though Blu-ray movies aren't region encoded, that doesn't mean that some movies won't be region encoded because I think a lot of studio's will want region encoded enabled. Otherwise it would defeat the purpose of regional encoding in the first place.
