Pentaborane
Now the interface on my PS3 (where it is supposed to be black with the animated wave) is bright grey! I took it over to my friends house and it looks normal on his --- therefore it must be an issue with my TV (?) Anyone encounter this problem as well?

SOedipus
what cables are you using (hdmi, composite, component)? and have you tried adjusting the brightness or contrast on the tv?
Pentaborane
if it's a problem with your TV I'm not sure if it is. - HDMI.... tried the brightness and everything.... switching between "cinema" "vivid" and all that too
metallithrax
I'm not sure if it is. If you watch some TV or a DVD on it and the colours are OK, it might not be the TV. If the colours are off, then it woul dmost likely be the TV and if adjusting the settings doesn't work, it may be a new TV for you. Also, you say the interface is wrong colour. What about during gameplay?
Pentaborane
TV (as in channels) looks fine... but for the gaming adjusting stuff doesn't work. Its only in durring PS3 use that it looks fooked.

Novaoblivion
interface on your PS3 changes colour depends on what the time is as it changes at cert times. I read that somewhere as well, mine seems to always be some shade of gray/black so far. What colors can it be? Anything interesting like red, green, blue, yellow, etc? It looks cool as is but a color would be nice :).
jeffcoloma
just like the PSP, the xmb interface on the PS3 changes the background color to a predetermined color on the 1st of the month. january = gold february = light green march = light pink april = dark green may = light purple june = cyan july = dark blue august = pink september = orange(ish) october = brown november = red december = white also depending on the time of the day, the colors will gradiate from full color to black (unlike the PSP). 12:00 midnight (full black) 5:30am background color starts to creep in 12:00 noon background is at full intensity (on some background colors there are subtle hints of warm light around the edges) 6:30pm background color is well on it's way fading out you can play around with the settings and see the colors change in real time by messing around with the date/time settings. goto Settings >> Date and Time >> Set Manually. it appears the length of the actual daylight (and thus the background colors) doesn't actually sync up with actual daylight, the world clock on my pda is able to do this, which is kinda disappointing but not a real letdown mind you. the background colors always fade to black at 6:30pm even shen the system is set to a date in the middle of summer. basically if you're at work or school all day, it's likely you'll come home to a black xmb interface on the ps3. i only get to see the colors on my ps3 on the weekends if i don't get out of the house. ^_^;

jeffcoloma
got up this morning and checked the psn store to see if maybe they released flow today, obviously no luck. then i noticed the background was still freaking white (or grey). i was just messing around with the date settings last, wtf? u know. tried messing with the date again, the background colors did change, but the sequence i posted earlier was off. after further testing, i finally figured it out. unlike the PSP, the colors don't change on the first of the month, the background colors change during the month, they'll fade into the new color. new color sequence for the ps3 follows! ^_^; january white >> gold february gold >> light green march light green >> light pink (sakura blossoms for spring!) april light pink >> dark green may dark green >> light purple june light purple >> cyan july cyan >> dark blue august dark blue >> purple september purple >> orange(ish) october orange(ish) >> brown november brown >> red december red >> white been pretty impressed for the ps3 so far, and little touches like this really adds to the whole experience.
