Island Roots
I'm getting very close to buying an iBook (most likely tomorrow) and I need some reviews on what I have picked out: iBook 800MHz 14.1" 640MB SDRAM DVD-ROM/CD-RW 30GB Ultra ATA Extra battery That all totals to $1,768 at the Apple store. I'm looking at other Mac stores (e.g. MacMall.com)...can you guys give me some Mac online retailers to look at also? Many thanks :D
ad.J
Imho I think you should get the 12.1". I'm getting that exact same setup except with the 12.1" and it runs ~1400 dollars. Otherwise, looks good =)

Chad
I would definately go for the 12incher. But a nice machine otherwise.
sparkleytone
i will add a third opinion to go with the 12" book. You arent getting any more real estate with that bigger screen. Its the same resolution. It just costs more and looks like an overweight iBook.

aaron901
doesn't the keyboard layout of the 14.1" iBook look better as it has some space at both end?
Chad
Imo, the whole idea of the ibook is being small and light. The 14" screen gives you nothing but a heavier machine. Like he said, it uses the same res, so you get the same amount of "stuff" on your screen. And it will save you some moneys as well.
Island Roots
Well an iBook with a 12.1" screen and the rest of the specs the same is only a savings of $150, so why not? BTW, I agree with Aaron ^_^
Chad
only a savings of $150 Heh, only. That's some good money you could spend elsewhere to improve the computer. Wireless internet perhaps? BTW, you aren't buying the ram from Apple are you?

Island Roots
1) What is this student rate you guys are talking about? I live in the US...but I don't attend a college (I'm still in high school) 2) How easy/hard is it to install the extra RAM yourself (the most I've done with a PC is install a NIC)? So it costs $100 to join and I am eligible for savings on an iBook? I just did the math and I'd be able to save around $300 :o Please please tell me more :p
