MPlayerOSX

I use this for playing just about all the movies from my PC. I recently played XviD encoded files with it.

I believe that VLC will also play them with no problems.

Both are very nice players, MPlayerOSX seems to support more formats but VLC has the better interface. I use both :happy:

Try this link for MPlayerOSX http://sourceforge.net/projects/mplayerosx/. It has the player downloads and a bit of information on the project. Not sure why the other link doesn't work for you.

As for subtitles. I'm not 100% sure (haven't gotten round to trying yet) but I do know MPlayerOSX lets you specify a subtitle file for a movie when you play it. I don't think VLC can use seperate subtitles yet.

Just did some digging for you. Found this list in the docs:

MPlayer can display subtitles along with movie files. Currently the following formats are supported:

* VobSub

* Microdvd

* SubRip

* SubViewer

* Sami

* VPlayer

* RT

* SSA

* MPsub

* AQTitle

Well, I was Mac/PC for a while, until my PC's power supply died on me. But, I found that I wasn't really missing everything, cause my mac did it all :)

Ooo.. i'm considering buying an iBook at the moment to go with my pc, but thought id have to plump out for the dvd version of the iBook 700. Thanks for the link because now ill be able to play all my DivX movies on it instead (and since i can easily convert my DVD's to DivX i can have all my movie collection with me :)

Incidentally my gf runs her DivX files through Quicktime using the divx codec for mac from http://www.divx.com It usually works really well and it comes with a handy program called DIvX Validator which sorted out problems we had with certain files.
