Canadian PS3 price got jacked up?

Recommended Posts

Forget my original response, I misread the TC's post.

Yea, it's been jacked up. Not surprised by the price gouging considering it's them. There's a thread all about it on RFD.

I thought it was always $659. Anyways, Futureshop.ca and BestBuy.ca just jacked up their prices to $699.

Probably a way for them to deal with all the returns. I just returned my 60GB PS3 today as it is a flagrant waste of money!

WTF? That is completely outrageous if Sony is behind it.

lawl i have to save up $1,199NZD which is about 800$ usd so i wouldn't complain too much about $600 usd price :\

That's a Canadian price my friend, I wish we got the US retail price...

Damn, why the hell did they do that :pinch:

Because Sony probably knows the PS3 is an expensive pos that is not worth half the price for what it offers...You have to buy an expensive TV to be worth the money, expensive cables, a suround sound system, expensive $70 games and twice more for Blu-Ray movies....I got it knowing I would return it because I wanted to see for myself and I did...I am sorry for the people that forked out $750 for it....I really am....

While it's true Canadians technically were getting the PS3 cheaper then Americans.. The problem is they raised the price from the launch.

If you had a bunch of people on the rocks of whether they want to purchase the PS3 or not, and then you add $40 CAD to the pricetag, well you just tipped the balance :p. Even though individuals from Sony have said a pricecut anytime soon is doubtful, I really hope they change their mind.

Heck I actually might get a PS3 at some point, and I've never owned a Sony console. But not until the price comes down significantly.

Just out of curiosity, what's making you consider it over a 360?

I already have a 360, didn't you notice the gamertag in my signature? I also have a Wii.

If I didn't have a 360, I would definitely pick it over the PS3. But the idea of being able to play all PS1/PS2 games + the eventual PS3 hits is appealing. Although more and more exclusives are becoming multi-platform so it might be pointless. And of course, it isn't going to happen until the PS3 is far cheaper.

I will be getting a PS3 when those flag ship Konami, SCE, Level 5, Square games come out in their Japanese gold discs. $40 is not going to influence my decision on getting a PS3 if I was going to get them at all.

The XBOX360 is just missing critical genres and too much Sports/Racing/Shooters

Sales tax for my province is a whopping 14%. That's $100ish. So to buy a PS3 Canadians spend almost $1k

Maybe have it shipped from the US? Or does it convert out to being about the same?

It depends on the shipping cost. Also the duty on the item would also eventually be charged to the consumer.

The problem isn't exactly the price in general (since as people have stated $699 CAD works out to be around $591 USD with the current exchange rate).. But rather that the price used to be lower, and now it's been raised. Price has been a big factor for most Canadians (and Americans) and any increase is going to irritate those who planned to grab a PS3.

thats pretty interesting. Also, neither FS or BB seem to list the 20gig version anymore. 550,660 were relatively aggressive price compared to the usd price.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ps3

compared to most countries we were getting it for much better price. with the current exchange rate, 550cdn is 465usd, and 660cdn is 560usd.

i find it interesting compared to the 360's cdn pricing. 299usd core is 399cdn, and 399premium usd is 499cdn. for us at launch, 20gig 360 was just $50cdn less than the 20gig ps3, and you cold debate that ps3 for $50 included bluray drive.
