iPhone Advert Airs During Oscars

I can't wait til the "Hi, I'm an iPhone" commercials...

Ya know, teasers are nice, but to anyone who doesn't know anything about the iPhone, it just looks like a little bit fancier, but normal cellphone. It doesn't really scream "give me attention, I'm going to rock the cellphone world" like you would think an ad coming from Apple would do.

@ the two of you above me - are you kidding? The amount of stupid people doing stupid things would increase something greater than exponential :p

I hope Microsoft and all the other cell phone manufacturers competing against the iPhone respond with ads along the lines of the Mac versus PC advertisements, but reversed.

iPhone: "Hi, I'm an iPhone."

Smartphone: "Hi iPhone. I'm a Smartphone. Welcome to the club."

iPhone: "I can play music and do email."

Smartphone: "We've been waiting for you."

iPhone: "Thanks."

Smartphone: "We have been able to play music for quite a while now. Did you say you do email?"

iPhone: "Yes. I check for new email all the time."

Smartphone: "Our emails get pushed to us when they come in. So do our appointments and schedule."

iPhone: "What?"

Smartphone: "That way we don't waste bandwidth."

iPhone: "Oh, really? But I can work on GSM networks."

Smartphone: "That's impressive."

iPhone: "Thanks."

Smartphone: "No, really. That's nothing to be ashamed of. I am available for CDMA / EVDO, GSM and UMTS networks. I can also interface with inventory control applications, do spreadsheets and database interfacing."

iPhone: "Ummm...."

Smartphone: "Well, you have to start somewhere."

iPhone: "But I can make calls, listen to music and retrieve emails."

Smartphone: "You said that already. Did I mention my brother can do all I can do plus do GPS mapping?"

iPhone: "No..."

Smartphone: "Yes, it's true. He can do what I do and give you directions to your destination."

iPhone: "Really?"

Smartphone: "Absolutely. And my other brother can do all that and play music on your car stereo."

iPhone: "Oh."

What a waste of air-time. In those 30 seconds they could've squeezed in a little information about it being more than just a phone. I'm not saying going in depth but maybe showing it playing music, browsing the internet and then a few frames later dialing a number, etc. Instead you get 25 seconds of "Hello" and about 5 seconds looking at the iPhone while knowing nothing about it and .5 seconds looking at an Apple logo.

If it wasn't for The Dude's appearance from "The Big Lebowski" I would've labeled the ad an utter failure. :p

I know the guy above me already said this but I was thinking the same thing...it's a teaser. That's what all teasers are like.

I liked the commercial. Each scene change showed a progression through time and evolution of the original phone..and then it ended it what it will evolve into in the near future. good marketing :)

And to be honest, if you guys noticed - they're not even mentioning iPhone on the ad. They just say "Hello" "Coming this June"

People who are not in touch with technology, don't know what the thing was. But since most of us here are in touch with technology, we know its an iPhone.

So I guess we should wait till the actual iPhone ad comes out. :)

Now I'm feeling all warm and fuzzy. An advertisement for something that doesn't even really exist yet and I guess I need to put away all of my preconceptions and misgivings and wait for the final product. Aww.... I will rest assured: it's coming from Apple so it must be worth it. And I will wait until I have it in my hands and am actually using it before comparing it to everything that is already available.

Touchscreens: already there. GSM connectivity: already there.

Cingular... oops (burp) AT&T... GSM? WoW! like yesterday- we're rolling out UMTS now!!!!! ALready passed that up.

EVDO Rev.0,A,B.... Let's watch UMTS catch up....ROFL...WCDMA is UMTS now, right? Oh wait... AT&T aren't there yet in the US...

... but Smartphones are.... So it's all about who's got the buttons now?

Well, I tried to remote desktop into my server from a blackberry... it didn't work. And iPhone gives me more of what?

Fitted within the context of it's time slot. Calling it Hello instead of iPhone is a mistake. People are going to search for Apple Hello or maybe Apple iHello instead of iPhone :p

1. - It's not called hello... it looks to me more like the iPhone is saying "Hello"

2. - People aren't morons... people aren't blind... people do read the news... and considering the iPhone and it's picture was all over the news through January... I think it's safe to say that more people know of the iPhone (not necessarily what makes it special... but certainly of it) than some people here seem to give credit for.

3. - Who cares if the stuff the iPhone has in it already exists in some form? Does this mean that Apple aren't allowed to make thier own? Does the existance of a potentially competitive product mean that Apple is not allowed to compete?

4. - Yes... it is a teaser... so it won't say much at all... I saw an advert a while back that made no mention of a product... or even a hint at what it could have been.... this same advert aired for weeks... until one day... it eventually aired a name

The advert seemed lacking... the ad makes an attempt to give you a hint as to what we're advertising... but in doing so it seemed to make it less of a teaser and more of an unfinished ad...

Nice conversation, but to be honest I could have made one that goes the other way round.

iPhone (I) is a cool looking person wearing a T-shirt and a pair of jeans, Smartphone (S) is an old man wearing a suit with LOTS of pockets (QWERTY keyboard yeah?).

I: Hi I'm an iPhone.

S: And I'm a Smartphone. What are you doing there?

I: Oh I'm just looking at my voicemail and checking if my mate has called me.

S: Hold on... You LOOK at your voicemail?

I: Yeah, this visual voicemail thing lets me look at all the voicemail I have and choose the ones I want to listen to.

... Too lazy to go on. :p

Smartphone and iPhone both have their own advantages, and if Apple opens up iPhone for development (which it may ultimately not), iPhone has a lot of potential.
