Silvorgold
on monday i installed the 10.2.2 update on my computer, and since then, the icons on the desktop and folders/dock dont move then i try dragging them, and the icons in the dock/desktop and folders are appearing as the "application" icons (as the white icon with the little "A") and on the dock when i'm using those appz (such as ichat....its the icon thats viewed as a folder in the attachment below), it appears as a folder icon how would i fix this? if there doesnt seem to be a way to fix this, i'll try reformatting tonite then thanx
Gator
That is crazy. Are you sure you didn't fool around with any resource files before or after you did the update?
Malechai Veteran Posted December 11, 2002 Veteran Share Posted December 11, 2002 odd i thought a Mac was going to fix all your computing (read: Windows) problems Silvorgold? ;) just teasing
Dazzla Veteran Posted December 11, 2002 Veteran Share Posted December 11, 2002 delete the dock prefs in your library/preferences folder. I've had this problem before and to be honest, the solution was random, it fixed itself when it wanted to.
betadan
isn't that the version that has amd support?
Silvorgold
isn't that the version that has amd support? hmm i remember there was something bout amd support in 10.2, i think its just support to connect to amd servers tho or something like that That is crazy. Are you sure you didn't fool around with any resource files before or after you did the update?nope, i left em alone, i was having preference problems on sunday and sparkleytone helped me with that, and the prefs were perfect ever since. someone was bytching at me a few weeks ago (not literally bytching but you know) and telling me that i "better format the mac as soon as you get it, unless you want to have lots of problems", but nothing is totally perfect, somehow i can fux0r up basically any os just by using it...fux0red up win 3x many times, win 98 hundreds of times, heXPee a couple dozen times, and linux a few times, mac os9 about 3 times, and osx once...but so far havent fux0red it up bad enough that it wont work, i just get ticked off if something doesnt look right (like the app icons on osx), i'll try fixing it tonite odd i thought a Mac was going to fix all your computing (read: Windows) problems Silvorgold? well its not as serious problems as i had on windows xp a few months back, but i was fortunate enough to get a kernel panic as soon as i started up once :ermm: but it sure beats being told that one of the windows files is damaged so i have to reinstall delete the dock prefs in your library/preferences folder. i'll try that, if it doesnt work, i'll do some reformatting tonite, i wont be losing much anyways (just a few appz like msn)
akuma1
isn't that the version that has amd support? hmm i remember there was something bout amd support in 10.2, i think its just support to connect to amd servers tho or something like that The "Amd" support that you are referring to has nothing to do with the AMD that you are thinking of. But rather it stands for Automount Daemon. Which does play a role in networking, but it has nothing to do with AMD.
Silvorgold
i reformatted about 4 hours ago and now everything's back to normal :D, and i installed 10.2.2, and it actually didnt fux0r anything up, if i had more than 100 megs of stuff on the computer (documents/music/etc), then i would have probably used a different path than reformatting, but i had only 30 megs of stuff on the computer (either than appz that i downloaded before hand)
wtmcgee
get out of the windows world... you dont have to reformat to fix all your problems. one plist file deletion would have fixed all of your issues.
