spenser.d
Yet you do believe that the picture of what 2 or 3 launches is what happened all over the country?Hmm.. whats that - coffee? Do you smell it? Wake up man. My post clearly says I'm not skeptical and therefore I don't believe that, but it is out there for others to make their own decisions on. -Spenser
American Ninja
Awesome News! This is good for Sony. The more consoles they sell the more money they make back the faster the price drop comes :)
Nightz
keep in mind that you can't base everything on the midnight launch. maybe people just didn't want to freeze their butts off in the cold and had the patience to wait until the morning to get their consoles. they had the patience to wait a few more months, so a couple of hours wouldn't have hurt. it may not have been the most successful midnight launch, but you can't conclude that the ps3 is a failure just because of those launch pictures...so these numbers could have some actual truth in them. koocha
*puts on flame retardant suit* I too have a hard time believing this. Especially after all the "it's far too much" talk.
Pilsbury
Must be one of the few console launches where supply outstripped demand though. Even Tesco were forced to advertise they had them in stock, which is unusual.

fingers.t.beaver
First of all well done Sony. With the number of games available and at the price this is a hell of an achievement. That said it is worth noting the reason the Wii and 360 launch figures were much lower was that they sold out completely. They continued to sell out completely for many months. It is still hard to pick up a Wii in a high street retailer. Well done Sony for having enough consoles to meet demand, however I think it is a little bit of a skewing factor in this infomation. spenser.d
Agreed with above. Sony sure wouldn't have had so much success in sales if they actually came through with the worldwide launch they promised. And by success I mean it may still have been a success, but they wouldn't have sold so much because they wouldn't have been able to. That's why you can't compare it much to the other two console's launches. -Spenser

fingers.t.beaver
Just to give some perspective consider this Sony shipped 220 000 units to the UK it sold 165 000 roughly that means that there are 55 000 sat on shelves. Compare that to the Wii that has sold ? and is still hard to find. Lets remember also that the PSP is one of very few consoles that beat this launch and we all know how well that went. Bhav
It took me one week to get a Wii...all this crap about how hard it is to get a Wii around here is just that...crap. Put my name down, and one week later I got a call saying it was ready to collect. Sony has pulled off an amazing feat given the extremely high price, mediocre games and late arrival. forster
We got one launch day without having to preorder - it just goes to show that the hype doesnt follow every store, every part of the world like the sheep like to think it does.
fingers.t.beaver
Once again though I have to say it is a really good thing that Sony have supply to meet demand, and well done on holding 1 and 2 in the launch week sales. It is nice to find a bit of hardware that can be easily bought this close to launch. It would not be a good thing for any of the big three company's fail. Market dominance is never a good thing and I think we are about to see a world where their are 3 big players all with similar market shares. I think we will see most third party games produced multi platform. All of this is great for gamers as we can choose which console we most enjoy and has the features we want without loosing out on titles. Buy what you want and enjoy it. SnowMizer
Ah, thanks for the info. The UK AND Puerto Rico obviously got most of the allocated Wii launch consoles so that is why the rest of the world is still struggling to find them on store shelves.
ZiGGA
Half of (well 165,000 to be exact) Britain must be (is) stupid. Why pay GBP 425 for a PS3 I mean that's higher than anywhere else on the continent. It's been doing terrible in Europe which is a stark contrast to here in the UK. It's hardly worth the money in all seriousness. Are people just impatient or something? I mean even if you're made of money surely that's a bit too pricey for a game console. (I'll buy one too, just not yet) no worries. i know that was your opinion and you are entitled to it. i just wanted to point out that you could have expressed it in a more polite way. i understand where you're coming from so i wasn't really offended by your statement. but there are other people here who are more anal about that stuff :p

I may be negative towards you, yes, but that's for a different reason. If anything I should be saying the same thing to you about the 360.
