ShellWM 0.1b released!!

The idea comes from blueboxWM - since it will be limited to bluebox only, and since I've always wanted to be able to skin windows with an opensource software, when I found the sources of CustomEyes I immediately started this project: a Windows skin application dedicated to all the win32 shell replacement apps.

e-sushi and ilmcuts joined the project from the start, so there is a "dev team" who's trying to make ShellWM better :)

ShellWM is based on the sourcecode of CustomEyes v. 0.30 by Didier Abderrahmane (dabder@glabouni.com). This is the original CustomEyes site .

CustomEyes was a great app, with some stability problems and some skinning abilities that we found unnecessary: ShellWM is limited to skinning the Windows frames and the titlebar buttons - we've removed the skinning of checkboxes, radiobuttons, dialog backgrounds, and we're still trying to remove the menubar skinning without blowing up our current stability... We've also removed the skin editor (one of the main sources of CustomEyes instability), but we hope to redevelop a new application that does the skinn-editor job a bit better. As for now, we're pretty satisfied with ShellWM's stability and we're convinced that you'll have no problem in configuring your own, personal window skins from the current status...

Our next step will be the release of a Litestep module that will allow you to automatically change the window skins according to the selected litestep theme; we also hope that other shell developers will join us in our development efforts and contribute their wisdom and experience, or at least will realize a plugin to integrate ShellWM in BlackBox, geOshell, sharpE and all those other nifty shell replacements.

We've included in this first beta some *non-official* skins for various available win32 shells. If the developers of the shells would like to submit instead an *official* skin, we'll be happy to include them in the next releases!

And we'll be happy to make available in the Skin section the skins you'll eventually mail us :)

The project is hosted at Sourceforge, where you can find our cvs with the sources.
