Windows .NET Server Adminpak.msi Does Not Run on a Windows XP-Based Computer

The information in this article applies to:

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition

Microsoft Windows XP Professional

Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition

SYMPTOMS

You cannot run the Microsoft Windows .NET Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) on a computer that is running Windows XP Professional.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the version of Dsprop.dll that is included with Windows XP Professional has been updated. The Dsprop.dll file is shipped in Windows XP but it has been changed in Windows .NET Server. Windows .NET Server Active Directory Administration Tools must use the newer version of Dsprop.dll to run properly. You cannot install the Windows .NET Server 2003 Administration Tools Pack (Adminpak.msi) on a computer that is running Windows XP Professional if you have not applied Service Pack 1 (SP1).

RESOLUTION

The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:
