GBA Game of the Year: Thge Legend of Zelda

Recommended Posts

GameSpy has named "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" the GBA GAME OF THE YEAR for 2002!!!!

Link's first 16-bit adventure is also one of his most revered. The SNES action / adventure title set in the lands of Hyrule comes close to handheld perfect on the Game Boy Advance. There shouldn't be many gamers that haven't enjoyed this game before, but now there's even more reason to own a copy of Nintendo's A Link to the Past. Aside from the full single-player masterpiece, the game also ships with an all-new two- to four-player link-up adventure known as Four Swords.

Offering some awesome co-op team play reminiscent of the classic days of Gauntlet, Four Swords practically doubles the value of this reworked Nintendo classic. You and a select group of chums will have to defeat tons of enemies, solve many brain-twisting puzzles, and have to work as a well-oiled machine to beat this excellent new multiplayer spin. But that's not all! A Link to the Past on the GBA also paves the way for some cool link-up features between the GBA and next year's GameCube title -- The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker.

A Link to the Past remains one of the finest games to come from the SNES 16-bit stable. Revered by many gamers to be the best that the SNES had to offer, Link must take up his ancestor's sword and shield and rescue Princess Zelda. An evil wizard had kidnapped Zelda and seven other fair maidens in an effort to turn the lands of Hyrule into a dark, evil empire. Link will have to battle through countless dungeons and face insurmountable odds if he is to succeed.

Nintendo has graciously added in a brand-new Four Sword dungeon that can be unlocked after some multiplayer gaming has taken place. There are a few minor changes, too. Link now shouts and screams as he swings his sword, enemies feel a little faster than before, and a ton of little touches improve the overall feel of the game. Even though A Link to the Past on the GBA loses a little bit of resolution due to the smaller aspect ration of the GBA's screen, none of the game's magic has dissipated.

A classic Link adventure, new multiplayer joy, and special link-up secrets? Everyone needs to grab A Link to the Past and enjoy the very best in video gaming right now.

BONUS!!!

Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts got a pretty funny award too...

TOO F#CKING Hard Award: Super Ghould 'n' Ghosts

Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts was notorious in the SNES days for being one of the hardest games around. Legendary were tales of gamers who actually beat it. The game comes to the GBA, and what do we find out? Thanks to aging thumbs, a smaller screen, and an expectation of modern user-friendliness, the game is even more of a ridiculous challenge than it was back in the day. We dare you to complete it without, or in the very least, some muttered curses. Bringing this one to the GBA was a bizarre move given the fact that it requires the utmost in concentration to complete -- something you're probably not able to muster up when you're in the right place and time to play a portable game.

There's also the question of the safety of putting this one on the GBA. If you chuck a controller, the cord's gonna keep you from wailing someone in the head, and you can curse up a blue streak in your own home without offending passers-by. Not so with a GBA. You could, potentially, send the thing flying into the head of a hapless pedestrian or -- worse yet -- shatter it against a hard surface. Really, Capcom, what were you thinking?

I hate to admit it  but I never really played Zelda on the SNES for more then a 1 or 2 hours . I never had the cash to buy it when it was new and when I finally had cash of my own to buy it, I couldn't find it. I definetly be buying this game (as well as the SNES version to add to my collection of games.)

I know:blush:. If I don't have enough cash to buy the GBA version (I'm trying to save some X-mas cash for a trip to Las Vegas for New Years Eve) then I will at least buy a used copy of the SNES version. ...crawls back into the hole I've been living in  ...
