Island Roots
Grrr!!! WTF will take these screws out? I have a perfect-size Philips screwdriver, but the damn screws are torqued into the RAM shield!!!! I'm going crazy here. I've tried everything from a boxknife to a butterknife to a pumpkin detailing knife to a steak knife and it is driving me nuts!

I'm going to take a guess and say they are Thorax (Correct my spelling on that someone) and not Phillips.. Can someone confirm that?

Silvorgold
thats what im having trouble with on my ibook, i TOLD ppl dozens of times that i cant get the screws out and theyre like "your doing it wrong" or w/e.. i read the apple instructions very carefully and used the right screwdriver (phillips), but its too tightly in there, im going to get the computer store to add it as soon as i go there next week.... 128 megs of ram is good enough for now, but sooner or later i'll have to get the 512 megs added.. azazel-
I feel your pain. I tried about 6 different phillips head screwdrivers that I have around the house, a couple of knives, a pair of fingernail clippers, scissors, you name it. Finally I broke down and went to Wal-Mart and they had a little yellow case with a couple different really small phillips and flat head screwdrivers. Worked right away, and only cost like, $5. You might wanna try that, because I'm pretty sure I was close to breaking something before. I won't go into the nightmare that installing the Airport card was...
Island Roots
just turn it harder then And strip it more! Okay will do! ;)
sparkleytone
i just used a jewelers screwdriver. it could probably work with a normal philips, but the head is rather small and the screws are usually pretty tight. use something smaller. username
if you stripped it then you need to get that tool that removes stripped screws (forget the name), don't futher strip it
bboyroe
this is reallly weird, when i put ram in my ibook the two little screws were easy to remove, just pressed down on the metal plate that they hold in, then they came out nice and easily. Putting the airport card in was nice and easy too.
Silvorgold
my dad wants me to get the local comp store to add the ram, although it will probably cost quite a bit of money just for 5 min of work... but ah well, its not like i'm the onepaying for the computer store adding the ram ;) lol yikes next year i'll have to be spending very very lil on computer related stuff, and hopefully find an 'ok paying' job, or good paying job :D

Island Roots
Well within the first minute or so of using the correct #0 Philips screwdriver, I had both screws out :p Now I've got 640MB of RAM in my 800MHz iBook and it is simply awesome :D
