It's Been, one week since...

It's been one week and one day since I received my iMac... I thought I would go ahead and post a follow-up message regarding it and give all those PC Users lurking around trying to decide if it's worth it to risk some hard earned cash on a Mac...

I'd like to start where most people would with a new computer:

Quality of Construction.

Grade : A-

The only flaw in the construction of my personal iMac is that the LCD Panel itself seems to lean to the right...the arm itself is perfectly straight yet on the level the screen is rotated a touch to the right... Not a huge issue but just worth noting. The Monitor Quality is flawless, no dead pixels, the DVD Drive is Solid and plays without flaw, the -R section of the drive burns (a bit slow) but with NO errors or flaws... The GeForce 2 MX seems a bit overpowered against the PC version. With Quartz Extreme all resizes are amazingly fast and OpenGL works without flaw or slowdown at 1024x768.

Operating System

Grade : A+

The shipping OSX (10.1.4) was, to be honest, not very awe inspiring. It felt a touch sluggish in all actions and had applications that quit unexpected frequently it seemed...

Then I received my misplaced 'Jaguar' update. In the tradition of the Jaguar Cars, this OS is a true Gem. Any complaints I had with 10.1 are gone. There is speed and some to spare, enhanced imagery, a blazingly fast Network Stack... Jaguar has truly shown me what, with all of it's resources, Microsoft should have produced with Windows XP. The OS is uniform (No components in the System Side which are not uniform to the 'Aqua' style), stable, and doesn't suffer from the 'Graphics Lag' that most Windows based systems do after several uses of OpenGL/DirectX applications...

Customer Support

Grade : A

This is a mixed grade from both Apple and SmallDog Electronics (http://www.smaldog.com)... Both companies are great with their responses and do not take weeks to respond to questions...

Appearance

Grade : A

My first thought at looking at my iMac is it's a work of art... My only complaints in the design are the lack of forward available USB/Firewire/Headphone Ports... Is it a show stopper? Not at all... A minor cosmetic suggestion for Apple in the future, the 'Chrome Apple' on the pod of the iMac might look cool with a thin LED white light framing it. ;)

Overall

Grade : A-

My name is Elezibeth, and I'm a Corporate CEO.

I honestly foresee the PC's in my home office slowly being replaced by Apple components in the near future.

My suggestions to the PC users, like me, who have had a hatred of Apple for years is take an open mind and go to your local Apple Store. Spend a bit of time just screwing around with one of these machines...the Raw Elements in it may indeed appear a lot like your PC but I can assure you the Apple will work it's way into your heart... If not, at least you will get the opportunity to understand a little that Mac's aren't some foreign language but they are also a form of PC...and while their users are more loyal to them than your average Win-Tel user, their thoughts are based on very similar aspects as the Win-Tel community...

With respect to all who have read though this, and thanks to those of you who helped me decide on the machine that now sits on my desk...

I'm glad you're happy with your new 'puter. :D

I'd consider one but I think they are too expensive and, from what I've heard, I couldn't build my own. I think the cases are cool...I'd love to put my computer's guts in one.

:D:D:D:D
